xrmanParticipantI spent 10 minutes on the range to fine tune my stance with Driver shots. Back on track!
I went on to play 18 holes with an score of 81, 8 less than yesterday. The difference was that my swing path was in tighter control with Driver and the ball stayed in play. I hit a couple of 200+metre shots. They felt and sounded well struck in the centre of the face.
I was not as lucky with the putter today ( 36) with a few 3 putts from GIR situation that left a long first putt.Happier Jan! 9 pars and 9 bogeys. No doubles at all (cheering inside)
I only hit one slightly fat shot where I got a face full of mud today. I noticed I hit a few thin shots that I got away with. Possibly it is a reluctance to hit the ground and risk digging deep divots?
I like golf again!

xrmanParticipantAfter the downpour all week we weren’t sure how playable Keperra would be – but the course handled it well and Sunday was perfect weather
My game wasn’t so good
Decent 4 over 18 point front
But poor 12 over 12 point back nineSo 30 points – not terrible but felt pretty rubbish
Had a similar sort of round yeaterday….19 and 11. A little frustrating isn’t it.
Sure is
It hurt to make the turn 4 over and then go double on 10 and lose the tee shot on 11 – not a bad shot it just bounced into the tree line and then gone in very clear open ground; golf is aa bitch sometimes – to be effectively 4 over after 2 holes for the back
Bloody golf

I see your two crap holes and raise the stakes. I hit three pars in a row, then three doubles in a row. Not all that happy Jan!
xrmanParticipantAfter the game I reviewed the Arccos stats. What was evident was that at hole 14 when I abandoned trying to swing through with rotation off the tee, the control and distance I was trying to get was back. Well that little experiment didn’t work did it?
Oh well, there is always the next game. It will be on a scrapes course in Dunkeld. I recall that it is a sand based course , so it won’t be soggy.
xrmanParticipantI have decided to grade my games as follows.
A grade= 78-82
B grade= 83-87
C grade= 88-92
D grade= >93Today I wobbled around the soggy course on a roller coaster ride. 7 pars, 5 bogeys and 6 doubles. The peak of the ride was mid -way , when I hit a few pars in a row. That was followed by three doubles when I hooked the tee shots into the trees. I hit 5/14 fairways, once I stopped trying to knock the cover off the ball. I hit 4 GIR and 5 up and downs. 31 putts with the Arm Lock putter. I sunk two from a long way out.
Two steps forward
1) Once I got used to using more loft on my chips to get the ball on the green, it put less pressure on the putter.
2) I felt comfortable with the Wilson Infinity half way putter. One Step back
Wildly erratic with the Driver today. It got better as the game progressed. Arccos rated me at 30+ handicapper for tee shots today. Approach 19, Short game 10, putting +5.OTS 44/46 =90 which is a C grade game.

xrmanParticipantI got wet feet from the soggy conditions on the local course. I would like to say that the reason I hooked about 6 tee shots into the trees was because it was dryer in there. It isn’t true, of course. I was trying to get ” full release ” feeling with Driver and smacked more than a few down the middle and then curved them left. 14 and 16 points, not bad for a C grade level game.

xrmanParticipantI took my D game to a scrapes course and hit 97 OTS last game. It has been pouring rain and cold for two days locally, so there goes any chance of improvement for 3-4 months. I will be lucky to maintain 13.
xrmanParticipantSeveral months later the vaccination program progress has hit a snag. Astra Zeneca vaccine has a rare blood clotting complication and the medical authorities vaccine review committee has advised that folks younger than 50 should be vaccinated with Pfizer. Then when a 52 year old woman died after AZ vaccination, they moved the age limit for AZ to 60. The media got on board and scared the population shitless, so fewer older folks rocked up to get a shot. Supply of Pfizer continued to be difficult to access from OS, so the under 60 age group were told to wait until the end of the year. Well it wasn’t a huge issue, as we had suppressed the virus and the oldies ( most vulnerable) were getting vaccinated. Enter strain delta and yet again hotel quarantine organized on a hotch potch non- uniform fashion by State’s health dept.employees failed to contain it. Panic ensued and Melbourne lead the Nation into lock down for a few cases, followed by most other States. Death and hospital admissions to ICU seem to be missing so far. Maybe the vaccination program of the vulnerable older population is working? Possibly we can link lock downs to death and rising ICU admissions, not case numbers in future. Those of you who have been paying attention since February 2020 may recall the ” flatten the curve”, ” keep the hospitals functioning” mantra, that Premiers seem to have ignored in their quest to be seen as our saviours. Sensibly, ( in my view) the government has adopted the view that the risk of blood clotting is less than getting sick and keeping the economy closed, so now AZ will be available to all ages, as long as you know there is a slight risk. Is it worth keeping closed for another 6 months waiting for Pfizer supplies, to avoid a few complications and maybe a few deaths?
News Flash: a recent study suggested the cause of the AZ blood clotting issue is the intravenous administration of the vaccine. It is supposed to be delivered into the deltoid muscle mass, but if the injector does not aspirate the syringe, the needle tip can be within a blood vessel. It was a method I used daily in my career to avoid unwanted complications.1 user liked this post.
xrmanParticipantI was joking with the other player on 11 handicap yesterday. My view is that players from non- scrapes courses ought to have a 3 shot increase in their handicap when playing on sand crape courses.
This morning I took my cart back to the local course for storage. I could not resist having a putt or 10 on the practice green to see if my putting yesterday indicated that i had lost my mojo. Nope! I sunk a few long ones, got pretty close for most and sunk 90% inside 1 metre.
What a pity that most courses don’t have a scrape you can warm up on/ work out how they roll, prior to the game.
Yesterdays analysis ( no Arccos data)
Two Steps
1) better off the tee, except when I pushed one into the next fairway. If you are going to miss, miss big! It was a shot that needed a draw to get around a dog leg left, close to the tee box. Poor club selection with using Driver not 4W.2) Fairway woods works 90%. Only sculled one worm burner all day.
One Step
chipping failed to get the ball within a short putt distance , unlike last week on the second nine. On that course I was able to land the short PW shot just on the verge, then let it bounce and roll up to the pin. At Hamilton, the PW shot checked and stopped. I landing it on the scrape once and learnt that that was a mistake, even for a short chip.
xrmanParticipantToday’s Vets game was at Hamilton Parklands scrapes course. It was 1 degree when we left Portland and headed inland after scraping the frost off the windshield. It didn’t really warm up much at all during the match.
There was a field of 41 players who braved the elements. Scoring in general was low. I played with another player at 11 handicap which made it more interesting. Today my tee shots went well in distance and directional control. I used the 4W and 7W ot good effect, but my game within 100 m left me down. The grass around the scrapes was soft and many of my PW chips, failed to run on to the scrape. Eventually I wised up and used 9i and 8i to chip with. For all but two holes I managed to avoid hitting the scrape full lob. It feels quite foreign deliberately choosing a club so that you will be short or long of the target.
The scrapes were very hard with sparse gritty sand covering, Many of them were a low conical shape. If you hit he putts a bit firmly to get past the hole they kept going. I missed a lot of putts today.my playing partner pipped me with 21 points. I scored 20. Not our finest hours!

Playing sand scrapes is in itself an art form of the game that must be learned. I am no expert at them but have played well in past years on some courses and poorly on others.
The locals will tell you to leave your PW in the boot not needed, and chip with 8 or 7 Iron.
also tell you no need to worry about using high spinning balls like proVs’, which are next to useless on scrapes.
best putter I have found for scrapes is bullseyes, they are brass and give good feel on the stabby stroke needed.
success in putting depends on your ability to scrape a smooth surface for your putts.
anyway I look forward to playing Parklands in AugustGood advice there CB80. I can leave my LW, SW, GW, PW out my on my bag in 2 weeks when I play at Dunkeld. (Grampians course)
My advice for you is to bring your thermals in August. Yesterday was bone chilling cold, not unlike Ballarat.I had a practice putt or three on the last scrape at Hamilton after the game. I found that I was better off looking at the hole to get closer to the pin. I do the opposite on a green.

xrmanParticipantI had no time for golf this weekend. I did slipped out for a 30 minute practice hit with my new TS2 7 Wood however . At first it was erratic, until I tried the Eureka set up that I use for my Driver shots. Much better! I was getting a nice tight draw with 155m +/- 5m depending on strike quality.
xrmanParticipantMy next game will be at the Parklands course in Hamilton as part of the SW Vets circuit on Monday. From previous years experience, I will wear my thermals and take my buggy with waterproof blinds to stave of hypothermia. It is another scrapes course, so last weeks game should put me in a good position to master the scrapes putting. The Parklands course is holding the VVGA sand scrapes championship in August. I am not sure that I can take the 3 days off to compete.
Will you be using the summer putter and hitting it firmer, or the winter putter and not using as much effort. Asking for CB, he seems to have a thought process for such things.😉😊.
I had some success with the Arc Master on the scrapes. Strangely I think they are both pretty heavy, but just for you I will measure them !

xrmanParticipantWell my handicap is back into the 12’s now again after the 87 result last game.
I was there a few months ago, but went off track.
Now the big question is can I avoid making dumb errors and make it to my target of 11, or will winter stall my progress?Reviewing the game on Arccos I didn’t play all that well in the long game area. I missed 4 fairways, needing a compromised second shot to progress towards the hole, plus my fairway woods are not giving me the carry distance. I will need to work on strike to become more reliable with them. A good shot I am getting 175 m with the 5 wood and 165m with the 7 wood, but more often than not it is more like 145m. Inside 120 m I am doing O.K. but winter is making my favourite bump and run approach shots variable. I will have to launch my pitch shots onto the green.
