Surely the chipping yips will not follow you!

October 6, 2019 at 4:10 pm #6142WeetbixParticipantPlayed Windaroo today in a between game. The course was in excellent condition – they have used their water well to keep the fairways very well grassed and spongy and the greens in very good fast and firm conditions.
Had 14 points on the front – 10 over the temporary par 35 (2nd a temp par 3)
Had 19 points on the back – 5 over 41
15 over 33 points7 pars 7 bogies 4 doubles
6/13 fairways – 5/9 with driver which wasn’t too bad but did have a couple of bad ones including water on 3 that cost a shot, a push on 12 into a tree, and a hook on 13 into trees. Also dropped a shot from a sliced 6i into trees on 17.
8 GIR – 5 on front and first 3 holes on the back. Overall I hit the ball pretty well but there were still a few shockers with short irons on par 3s that cost me. PW on 2 and 8i on 5 both off the toe cost 2 shots, and a 9i pulled on 18 left me short sided. Overall pretty good.
4/10 up and down – dropped 3 shots here although 1 was as much to do with a topped punch shot after my 6i drew into the trees that finished 40m short. The other 3 not up and down because of those poor PW, 8i and 9i that left me with not much to work with; hit good chips on 2 and 5, and good but long LW bunker shot on 18, but up and downs would have been lucky. Only 1 bad chip – a thin AW chip second shot on the short par 4 6th.
38 putts – this was the difference between the 2 nines – a 4 putt on 9 and 4 3 putts on the front for 6 over on the greens, 1 3 putt on 10 the only blemish on the back, and sunk putts of 30ft, 6ft, 10ft and 10ft on the back nine. 7 over with the flat stick.
Some good signs. Driver was a bit pushy still – but mostly not too terrible. The rest of the bag was decent and hit a couple of really good shots. Like a punch fade approach on 10 that finished 20ft from the back flag, a 9i over trees from the wrong fairway on 12, a nice draw 4h third on 13 that hit the green but bounced over the back, and SW 3rd into the par 4 16th Snake Gully (the hardest par 4 in Oz!) to 10ft that got me a par.
Need to sort out my lag putting and my putts from 2 to 6ft for Nats. Would like to get my driver a little straighter too.

October 7, 2019 at 7:56 am #6147WeetbixParticipantNot the way it’s supposed to be played like my 2 playing partners did – but I’m the only one who parred it
Driver I pushed so far that I played a provisional even though there is a lot of space there. But had no trouble finding it and it wasn’t really even close to OOB. Went about 220m but had hit trees. Left about 234m to the pin meaning about a 200m water carry. Was very tempted but decided to lay up – decision took about 0 seconds.
Punched a 9i up to about 96m from the centre which was around 107m from the pin down the back over the hump. SW well struck is about 110m so I didn’t want all of that so choked down and narrowed my stance a bit to take some off it. Pushed the shot a few metres right but distance was perfect as I landed on the top of tge hill, first bounce on top, then it rolled down the back.
When we hot there I was short right of the pin, about 10ft away. Break way left to right and I aimed a foot above the hole. Made my stroke and watched it track nicely to the centre of the cup for a par! Little fist pump and a “Yeah!” and I was a happy camper.
My 2 playing partnersvboth hit big straight drives/3 woods and went for the green in regulation. 1 hooked his onto the slope 40m right on the green and almost got up and down. The other chunked his approach from 145m into the drink and doubled from there.

1 wipe each nine
Driver was wayward all day and had a bad case of the push fades across the bag
