Interesting to see how different states respond to varying degrees of an outbreak. Even more interesting to see how some defend the action taken and those that depose the action taken. I guess it is one of those little problems that will be with us for some time yet. It will be interesting to see how the economic status of all the States will be in 12 months time due to the actions taken by the various premiers. No sense in blaming the Comm Gov, States wanted their individuality and it was granted.

February 14, 2021 at 9:57 pm #16085OldBogeyParticipantnext week is going to be hot, in Victoria, so lots of people will flock to the beaches, and or get outside in sun and fresh air and enjoy them selves, the ingredients for health living, instead of being cooped up in side.
Anyone want to bet against the lock down extending to end of February, even into March.…….
Betting against it? No way!
Commandant Dan is always wanting to show that he’s the boss instead of setting reasonable limitations. Any excuse to push his peasants around. He’s probably descended from the sheriff of Nottingham.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

There seem to be plenty who are blaming the PM and saying he should take action through economic force and whatever else he can come up with
It’s a crazy world
Overall it’s gone great and even thought I wish more Premiers took a path like Gladys I don’t agree with piling on as if they are criminals
They are making political decisions – surprise surprise!

Yep, seems they are doing what they believe is best for their respective States and I suggest to a degree what they believe will keep them popular. Funny how each States populace viewpoint seems to trend with what they are used to, but that also seems to depend on the respective areas of the State they reside in.
Time will tell what worked best I suppose. Still a bit bemused though when the States call for more money from Comm Gov to cover shortfalls caused or extended by State Gov decisions. Or how States can close their borders and affect 1000’s who had holiday bookings, but then reopen and implore holidaymakers to come to their State because the respective tourism and hospitality industry are suffering. ???5 users liked this post.
February 19, 2021 at 11:29 am #16130OldBogeyParticipantWell, vaccinations are about to commence and they should get around to all of us by the end of the year.
It will be interesting to see what effect the vaccinations have.
The vaccine does not make the patient immune to coronavirus, it just pre-arms the immune system to recognise covid-19 as an evil invader and start the fight immediately, thus reducing the severity of the infection. Life saving no doubt, but not immunity. Some people will be asymptomatic but still infectious. The question has not yet been answered as to whether a recovered covid-19 patient is then immune and whether they will be immune from variants of the strain and to what extent.
Being an old fart means I should be up towards the top of the ‘early adopter’ list. But being in country Victoria means our list will come well after the city folk.
These, and other questions will all be answered, eventually.

July 2, 2021 at 3:56 pm #17105xrmanParticipantSeveral months later the vaccination program progress has hit a snag. Astra Zeneca vaccine has a rare blood clotting complication and the medical authorities vaccine review committee has advised that folks younger than 50 should be vaccinated with Pfizer. Then when a 52 year old woman died after AZ vaccination, they moved the age limit for AZ to 60. The media got on board and scared the population shitless, so fewer older folks rocked up to get a shot. Supply of Pfizer continued to be difficult to access from OS, so the under 60 age group were told to wait until the end of the year. Well it wasn’t a huge issue, as we had suppressed the virus and the oldies ( most vulnerable) were getting vaccinated. Enter strain delta and yet again hotel quarantine organized on a hotch potch non- uniform fashion by State’s health dept.employees failed to contain it. Panic ensued and Melbourne lead the Nation into lock down for a few cases, followed by most other States. Death and hospital admissions to ICU seem to be missing so far. Maybe the vaccination program of the vulnerable older population is working? Possibly we can link lock downs to death and rising ICU admissions, not case numbers in future. Those of you who have been paying attention since February 2020 may recall the ” flatten the curve”, ” keep the hospitals functioning” mantra, that Premiers seem to have ignored in their quest to be seen as our saviours. Sensibly, ( in my view) the government has adopted the view that the risk of blood clotting is less than getting sick and keeping the economy closed, so now AZ will be available to all ages, as long as you know there is a slight risk. Is it worth keeping closed for another 6 months waiting for Pfizer supplies, to avoid a few complications and maybe a few deaths?
News Flash: a recent study suggested the cause of the AZ blood clotting issue is the intravenous administration of the vaccine. It is supposed to be delivered into the deltoid muscle mass, but if the injector does not aspirate the syringe, the needle tip can be within a blood vessel. It was a method I used daily in my career to avoid unwanted complications.1 user liked this post.

So it seems the medical community is split too
July 10, 2021 at 11:24 pm #17132CommishParticipantHad the 1st shot of AZ about a month ago and no adverse affects. Wifey is susceptible to clots so is waiting for the Pfizer on docs recommendation. Mind you, the number of aphylactic problems with the Pfizer is not that encouraging either. On another note, the new stay at home rules in NSW are a real bugger. My home course is within my local LGA…. However, it is also outside the 10km travel distance, so no golf for the time being. ?

350,000 plus people were at the rally on Saturday in Melbourne, to protest against these future lockdowns and loss of our freedoms and our Children’s freedoms.
same rally had 100, 000 plus people in Sydney and Brisbane.
If you watch stream media you may not have even seen the story. or seen one saying 1000 protesters were there BUT its realOn again this weekend, in your capital city and going to be bigger and bigger numbers each week until people wake up or the movie ends

Storm in a teacup. Get the jabs and you’re unlikely to get really sick, but no guarantee.
No jabs and you’d better lock yourself in at home and seal the windows. If you venture out, you might not have long to regret it.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.
