Stab at Warra (what else could it be?).
10/14 for 24 points. A few 3-pointers, but who cares?
These rounds are a good opportunity to experiment with my swing, not that I seem to achieve much. I had some really good distances, but that was probably the brisk tail wind. I don’t seem to have much conviction with my game, I’m just out there for a whack and don’t care much about the score.

I think I knock a flagged round out of my handicap list but I won’t go out by more than .1

And how’d common sense go last time?

When it comes to politicians, none of their senses are common.

Another stab at Warra ‘for handicap only’.
Played crap, something like 27 points. All flags move south a notch.

By the way, it was fabulous golf weather, I really have no excuse.

    Enjoy the game.
even if we move from cell 4 to cell 3 it may mean golf in 2’s.
lets hope Golf Australia are talking to Dan and his ministers and pushing for golfers to get out again
hope common sense prevails this time.

And get rid of those rotten masks while out on the course, subject to maintaining distancing, maybe play in threes and allow comps. The current golf restrictions are just mean bullying that serves no useful purpose.

73 new cases yesterday. Not many out of 6.5 million.

Another stab ‘for handicap only’ day today.
Glorious golf weather but you wouldn’t know that looking at my score.
I actually had a good 9 hole score. Pity it took me 18 holes to rack that up. 12 & 12 for 24 points. My only 3-point was the last hole. I’ve hardly played in the last fortnight due to wet weather and carts not being allowed. My game has gone to crap.

    Bring on spring.

I dont get why you would put a card in for handicap only, when weather is crap and its not a comp(unless its to donate comp fee to club).
You are already at your anchor and so if play bad it only gives negative thoughts.

At least you can still play.

All of us in the Metro prison wont be out on course until at least cup day in November, so Dancer and i might get a game with you before Christmas.

Yes, it’s a donation – I view it as green fees. All who pay a tenner go into a draw for a nominal ‘raffle’ ($40), but only a fairly small percentage get one of those.

I’m trying to move all my flags down – I might just get out to the max 18.9 which will have me playing off 18. I can’t go any further until the middle of next year.

Mouldy has been going to town against Comrade Dan’s management (or mis-management) on his facebook page. Now his posts are hidden and further comments disallowed. Perhaps Dan got some help from Trump to hide the dissenters?

It’s been too wet for golf for the last couple of weeks, until today.
And what a beautiful golfing day it was.

That brief storm late Thurs meant no power from just before 6:00pm until 1:40pm Fri. No power really buggers things. No lighting, gas ducted heating but no power to light the flames or blow the air through the ducts. No gas hot water – no power to ignite the flame. The NBN node around the corner had no power so no internet. Even the phone towers were powerless so I couldn’t call anybody. The only saving grace is that my cooking has gas hotplates and I have matches. So, by the light of a torch I cooked up some eggs (yes, with bacon) and went to bed at 7:30. The power came on for about one minute just after midnight, but then not again for another 13 hours. Stayed in bed until 9:00am, not that I could do much when I did get up.

But it seems there are vast numbers of people who still don’t have power, some had their homes and cars smashed and a few died. So I am quite lucky, comparatively speaking.

I’ve never had a flu vaccine injection. But with all the hoo ha earlier this year about coronavirus being terrible if you already have the flu, and being an old fart, I thought it might be the time to start the annual ritual. So I made an appointment with the doc, checking to make sure they had stock on hand. Visited the doc a few days later, “sorry we’ve run out of flu vaccine”. Another appointment a few weeks later to discuss blood tests and it was a repeat of in stock / out of stock. That happened four times so I gave up. It was projected to be a bad flu season with hundreds of old folk succumbing, but that didn’t eventuate. Covid got them instead.

Now, we have one of our chief medicos claiming that Australia is well placed to manufacture a covid vaccine, when one is developed, and very quickly get it to all Australians. Yet they can’t even do that with the regular flu vaccine. I know that if I call bullshit on the claims, then when a vaccine finally comes I’ll miss out yet again and have to wait until it’s no longer needed.

In the meantime, it’s good to see the covid numbers dropping.

So Gaz, you’ve sold half a dozen in one store during a no-golf lockdown and the Wilson rep won’t get 50 lefties in for all Australia?

I haven’t hit a bad shot in nearly a month.

Whilst I know the feeling, at least I get to play occasionally.
Warra have banned carts again tomorrow, BASTARDS !!!, so all I get to do is eat and sleep and it’s pissing me off. Maybe I can play on Thurs.

    Bring on spring !

We might as well be in lock down stage 4 today. Hail , high winds and heavy rain hit the SW coast of Victoria. I expect our course will be under water now.

Ours won’t be under water, the rain drains off the hills fairly quickly. The problem is that they ban carts when wet because they’re worried we might leave a track. Not much golf happening at this time of year.

In any case, I wouldn’t have played in that crap weather today anyway. Instead, doing sudokus and prattling on in here. And that sleep in until 10:00 was great.

Mads, you did ask what we all think, so here’s my twopence.
Most of you would know that I’m a bogey golfer. Breaking 80 has been an extremely rare event. Whilst I’ve rarely played with scratchies, I’ve often played with single figure golfers but more commonly with high handicappers.
So, here’s my take on the above.
    1. It seems all players usually fail to take enough club and they do that very consistently.

    2. High handicappers don’t know their miss because they don’t know which of the dozens of possibilities is going to occur for their next shot. Low markers have a better idea because their golf is far more consistent and misses are uncommon.

    3. It’s the low markers who overthink, particularly on greens. They are mostly by far the slowest players, perhaps thinking they are on the tour, or there’s money riding on every shot. High handicappers just walk up to their ball, take a putt, have another one and keep going until it’s holed or they run out of shots. I see many 30 ‘cappers who could be playing off 20 if they just took a bit more care with their putts.

    4. High handicappers have usually accepted the fact that they are crap golfers and yet another stuffed shot is nothing to cry over. Low markers, on the other hand, know that a failed stroke is not something they can readily recover from score wise and this will not be a ‘good’ round, hence the dummy spit.

    5. Whether one takes their medicine and hits a safe shot out of trouble depends on the format being played. If playing stroke, play safe. If playing stableford, it depends on how far up the creek you already are and whether playing safe still provides a reasonable prospect for scoring at least one point. If playing par, it’s likely that a safe shot will result in a wipe, so why not go for it.
The fun comes in match play when your decision on what you’ll do depends on what your opponent’s position is and at what stage the match is currently. If loss of this hole means a lost match, you have to attempt the hero shot even though success is unlikely. If you are ‘up’ in the match, then a safe shot might just get you a half.

I think most golfers are aware of how good or bad their golf is and what they need to work on for improvement. Inconsistent drives are the prime killer of poor scores. Fix those first then see what’s next. No point in being a fantastic putter if you keep running out of strokes before getting onto the green.
