Sure. Not sure anyone suggests they are anything more than opinion, particularly since the sample size in terms of raters is relatively low.
The rankings are a discussion starter, a good marketing tool for clubs, courses and architects and a way to learn about new places to play.
Not sure I agree that pros and scratch markers should have sole domain. Golf courses are for all and most are probably too short for pros these days. The classic courses were designed for the distances in their day, which are now close to how far the average player hits it with the newer technology equipment.
And the newer daily fee courses need the cash so keep their options open.
A good test of a course in my view is whether it’s playable and enjoyable for the average player. Not the same as easy.

I agree. The best course should offer a challenge to handicap players, not an impossible dream nor a walkover.
For scratch players, their challenge will be to score under par as though competing against other scratchies. They may well find some holes easy but they are the holes offering a sub-par possibility.
Fairway bunkers can be placed out of range of lesser golfers but requiring skilled players to choose options about how to best play the hole.

There was a break in the weather this afternoon at 3, so I braved the light wind and drizzle for a 9 hole hit out.
It is no secret that my long game is my weak link of my game. My results and Arccos tell me this often. Accuracy is O.K. but distance isn’t as good as it can be. Today that changed. I have been watching Golf with Marcus Egblad, an ex long driver champ of Sweden , on YouTube lately. Using his advice today I was getting a nice draw shape off the tee and I was confident it would work, so I aimed right of centre and let it go. Darn it was pretty! even in today’s heavy air and wet ground I hit a 209 m drive on hole 7. I let it go out towards my usual right side pine tree and waited as it turned back into the fairway. Wow, it worked every time I tried it.

I hit a 42 OTS; 3 pars and 4 bogeys. Now can I do this in a game?

I couldn’t find Marcus Egblad on youtube. Any other reference?

I played Tues at Warra. 30 points. Nothing of note.
Played today. 29 points. Still nothing of note.

Pulled out of today’s round early and had a nice sleep in instead. Golf would have been ok for the first half but constant rain thereafter. Netflix instead.

    Stab at Warra today.
When I played on Thurs, I jarred my left wrist. It was still a bit sore yesterday but I thought it was ok this morning. That was until I played my second shot today.
Starting on the 10th, my drive was ok but that was it. When I got to the green, four putts for a wipe. One point on 11. Rain started on 12, wrist was annoying, another wipe. Rain eased on 13 and was no more than threat thereafter. But with everything a bit wet and 5 strokes down after 3 holes, recovery was unlikely.
After nine holes, I had amassed nine points.
Second nine was better but only 13 points.
Total was 22 points. 34 putts wasn’t all that bad, particularly after that start.

Stab at Warra today in beautiful, sunny weather.
15 points out with 16 putts, 20 points back with 15 putts.
    Totals: 35 points, 31 putts.
Only one wipe for the day, four 1-points, five 3-points.
    Two 3-putts, seven 1-putts.

All that will cost me a stroke for my next round, dammit.

Police presence busy checking number plates on Thursday, then just as soon as they arrived they disappeared.
probably back to CBD to stop the builders.
all trades now have 2 weeks off.

weather on weekend and next week will be better so holiday makers, already today those with holiday houses sneak down and a few more caravans arrived in the park probably while police are distracted on west gate bridge.

Their idiotic actions are reminiscent of Norm Gallagher’s BLF. A pack of fools more intent on being disruptive than actually fighting for a cause.
I would have given them until we get to 80% double dosed. But so few were wearing masks that a large number will have contracted covid-19 and will be off work anyway.

Pretty wet yesterday so they banned carts on the course.
Good weather expected on Thurs for our next round.
    Lousy again next Sat.

    Stab at Warra.
Front nine: although quite windy, it was otherwise pleasant enough but my score was shithouse. One wipe, four 1-points, 2s for the rest. 18 putts with only one 1-putt and a 3-putt. Just 12 points
Back nine: the weather deteriorated with passing squalls but my golf improved. No wipes, only one 1-point, four 3-points. That leaves four 2-points. Four 1-putts, nothing worse than 2 putts. That’s 14 putts, 21 points.
Totals: 32 putts, 33 points. Not a bad finish considering I had 6 more putts than points on the front and the weather was worse on the back.

High Wind warning. If you have not had the gales yet, they are coming east.

Stab at Warra today with no comp prizes.
I had a better round today than most of my recent attempts.
One wipe, three 1-points, five 3-points for a 36 point total.
Two 3-putts, eight 1-putts and a chip-in (it’s been quite a while since I’ve had one of those) for a 28 putt total.
My short game was so much better today than recently, with heaps of short putts after chipping close.

How did I play today? Not very well at all. Just 24 points. Something like 38 putts. Dropped a few nice, long putts but also shaved the hole far too often.

Dan has told police to put the ring of steel up again at Lang Lang roundabout, so Not sue OB could get down to Lang Lang even though he is country region.

Nyora. Actually, I could just turn left at that roundabout and take a few back roads. But going via Nyora is simple.

Golf booked for Tuesday. Northern client moved meeting to following week so will play Tuesday at the home of golf.
seems like we need to get in as much golf as we can, lest it be banned.

It’s just a matter of time, CB.

Stab at Warra today. Just for handicapping, not a real ‘comp’.
Three wipes, four 1-points, three 3-points, which leaves eight 2-points. I think that makes the total 29 points.
    32 putts.

Great to be back on the course. A bit windy but 22° to start with.
