MadamKeymasterPlayed Helensvale yesterday with Qld crew- shortish course, narrow fairways, firm, and pretty windy. Great greens though a bit firm and fast.
Last game with a month ago which I played pretty well- clubs have been in the closet since with only a large bucket the day before to try and loosen up.
Lack of playing adn practice definitely showed- just couldn’t get things into any real groove, and when missed a fairy you had some bump adn run recovery from soft and hard lies. Too many doubles!
Great to get out though with Weetie, Kenny and Clayton in our group. 32 pts was the best of the group of 12.
Lovely 24pts for me playing off 3

MadamKeymasterInteresting that they see breaking 80 as a goal for high handicappers
Would have thought they were trying to break 90
If breaking 80 is a realistic opportunity for you you shouldn’t have a high handicap – low teens at worstEveryone fails at golf for different reasons
I think that improving your course management is a must for breaking 80 – playing to your specific skill set
7 over though requires more than just minimising errors – you have to score a lot of pars-

No doubles or more!
Or need heaps of birdies.
MadamKeymasterI was thinking that getting short sided in situation where I have to get up over a steep verge to a close pin position and not much roll out on the green to another bunker or steep verge on the other side, would require a high chip with the LW.
When it works it is great, but I found it either didn’t go far enough ( too much finesse) or hit near the pin with too little spin and rolled off. Normally I do use lower loft bump and run shots, but I was trying to get a handle on the LW. Tried and failed. if in doubt I have been running that shot up with my single length hybrid using a putting style stroke. A poor shot is better than the LW poor shot.understand
When trying the lob it pitch shot, the technique is a little different and precision needed more.
Maybe find a couple vids on the types of shots and see it that may help you get more confidence in the shot.
Try a hardpan lie over a bunker to short side pin. With water over green!! 🙂
No thanks! I would probably chip sideways, so I had more green to run the ball up to the pin. Two shots for sure, versus how many for the hero shot method? Last time I tried the hero shot I went from one bunker into the opposite bunker and back again. Luckily I was playing solo, so no witnesses.
I watched a video of Golf Sidekick having a lesson for the Lob shot in Malaysia. The lady coach was very informative.
agree with madam
if you practice the lob shot shot form off hardpan, you will learn to use the bounce angle on the SW or LW to good effect,
then sand shots and soft fluffy lies will be easy.
if practice hard to play easyMuch of the success in lob and pitch shots is confidence. hardpan will separate the men from the boys!

MadamKeymasterAnother 18 holes practice session. I worked on the fade shot off the tee. I am using two Drivers. One set up for Draw and the other fade. I scored 84
Two steps forward
1) After trial and error I started to get a reproducible small fade shot off the tee. If it didn’t quite work, it was a straight shot slightly left of target line.
2) The few draw shots off the tee worked well., allowing me to hit them with confidenceOne step back
1) Chipping today was poor. I was trying to use the LW to work out an flaw. I think I have got it now, but the chips were either short/ long or left/ right of target.
There is a big difference between a chip and a pitch
I’d suggest not chipping with a LW as it’s for lobbing:)
Use an 9,8 or even 7 for your shots and get more roll happening versus air time and see how you go
MadamKeymasterAny news on what Melbourne clubs are doing to support members, who have lost about 3 months playing time this year to this virus thing..
I have heard of some clubs considering a rebate,
Value add versus rebate or discount. BB has one possible scenario.
Survey your members to see what their sentiment is on this, let them know how the club is traveling.
MadamKeymasterI broke 80 for the first time today. I am one happy golfer!
Two steps forward
1) I broke 80
2) I putted really well today
One step back
1) I am still trying to master my new Driver to get consistent fade shots off the tee. They are either not fading, or too much.congrats. Break a tough barrier. Keep it up. You have done it once so can do again

MadamKeymasterAm I able to borrow somebody’s HC for the day??
And if I have a couple of mates that wanna play, are they able to borrow a HC as well if they don’t have 1??
you can rent mine but only if you shoot a score in the 70’S including a few missed short putts. I’ve got a rep to uphold!

MadamKeymasterI would say , ” He’s Back!” Well played.
I’ve definitely found with golf that every game is a new adventure and you can go backwards at any time
But I hope so – want to get back to singles
You have the skills for all the shots to become a single dig player, where some double dig players dont and never will get much lower.
What do you think needs to happen to bring it all together for more consistency?
More practice?
Mental?-

MadamKeymasterPlayed Headland off 12
Course was in great condition
I had 42 on the front for 18 points
40 on the back for 20 points
82 and 38 pointsDriver was pretty wayward with push fades for much of the day and cost me a few shots
Otherwise played pretty well apart from the wipe on 3 where the bad drive was followed by a bad punch from the trees and not getting up and down with Texas through wet grassEven better played considering you had a wipe!
MadamKeymasterdoes anyone know if green keepers are still allowed to work at the greater Melbourne contaminated zone courses..
green keeping is not really really essential service, and I know last time, clubs had to battle to retain the courses.
not mentioned anywhere, but then again haven’t heard clubs screaming.Advise we are being given is a conditional yes, it appears that a skeleton staff can work to maintain the course to a level, but not the full staff.
We were essential staff, Up here in qld originally, but I guess if they are shutting life down in Victoria, then, we aren’t…. it’s only turf anyway, We are trained to deal with abnormal growth patterns. I just applied growth regulators to everything when the shit first hit the fan in March
a few of our Vic members need that growth regulator but may be to late now
