Any update on your new job?Hi CB Its not a new job, but a new project for the proposed surf and golf resort on GC.

Hack2489ParticipantQuick stop to check-in and see what you’ve all been up to and well, it’s feeling a tad like tumbleweeds in here.
WTF is going on? Where is everyone?
Anyway, my golfing journey has continued to crawl to a halt due to the ongoing lower back issues. Very rarely pick up the clubs these days, and with my previous less than full competition golf calendar the GA hasn’t had many entries.
Last competitive round was the Ocean Shore ProAm for a bit of professional networking with work associates. Our group was paired with a young lad from Lennox Head who was a very mellow with the appearance of a tradie / surfer.
A few practice sessions in the week leading up had my swing dusted off, and a bit of feel for the short game. So with low expectations, I set out to play steady shot by shot golf, and walked off with 88 OTS, for a played to of 13 (slope rated 139, par 73 with a +1 daily difficulty) which has squeezed .2 off the GA and has me now at 13.7
Haven’t swung a club since.
One of my clients is recovering from heart surgery, and so we’ve planned to meet at the course rather than office so he can get some walking in between a few light swings. So, I may have more to report in coming weeks.
Take care.
Hack.

Hack2489ParticipantHmmm, well that all got off track fairly easily …
Good topic though.
Hopefully the collective wisdom in here may help someone one day when they start out golfing.
In hindsight, I wish I had lessons.
Hacking it around in high school with NFI set me up for a lifetime with a poor golf swing.
My advice to any new beginning golfer would be:
– Go to a local PGA golf professionals and get a few ‘fundamentals’ basic type lessons
– Ask said PGA professional to guide you into a starting set (second hand)
– Ask said PGA professional to help you understand how the ‘ball flight laws’ link to your golf swing
– Practice both at a range and on course
– Split off course practice time 60% short game (inside 50m), 20% Irons, 20% Driver / FW
– Know your ‘realistic’ repeatable distance with each club in your bag
– Stay away from YouTube, golf magazines and the ‘latest’ fad idea
– Buy decent golf balls, not expensive ones, but not hard rock pieces of junk either
– Practice short game only with the same ball you intend to play
– Set realistic goals, focus on process not outcome, and enjoy your time out golfing (whether practice or play)Simple.

Hack2489ParticipantTL:DR: Steady sailing until the back went crack!
Dusting off the rusty swing with 2x range sessions and 1x short game session in the last week had me standing over the ball with only a mild feeling of NFI at Cooly Tweed. Being a low key social round with a small group of professionals for a bit of ‘networking’, it was easy to set simple goals; good PSR every shot, focus on process, execute with commitment.
Playing the River course off the white tees, my 13.9 GA gave me a daily of 13. (Scratch rating of 71 on par 72, slope 119)
And, so the card looks like this:
6 a 2 (bogey)
4 a 2 (par)
3 a 2 (par)
5 a 2 (bogey)
7 a wipe (triple)
6 a 2 (bogey)
4 a 2 (bogey)
4 a 3 (par)
4 a 2 (par)I made it to the turn with 7 over OTS and 17 pts
3 a 2 (par)
6 a 1 (double)
5 a 2 (bogey)
5 a 2 (bogey)
8 a wipe (triple)
7 a wipe (triple)
8 a wipe (quad)
6 a wipe (triple)
8 a wipe (triple)heading home, with 20 over OTS, and a mere 7 pts
Can you guess where my lower back went crack?
So, here I am, middle of the night, awake, thanks to the oh to familiar dull ache that is my lower spine.
Ah, golf hey?

Hack2489ParticipantHey crew, just dropping by to say G’day.
Haven’t played much golf since the ProAM last year. Actually, I’ve only had social rounds since, one of which was at Royal Chinderah for a clients Christmas / End of Year Break-up drinks feast. I have a social round this Friday at Tweed Cooly so that’ll be interesting to see what swing mechanics turn up.
In other news, I’ve ventured into bigger boating pursuits having upgraded from a ‘tinnie’ to a glass cabin / offshore boat. The chartplotter / fish finder / sounder in the new boat cost as much as my whole set of golf clubs. BOAT really does mean Bring Out Another Thousand.
Stay safe.

Hack2489ParticipantThe games showed me how I need to better prepare for events, hitting a medium bucket of balls on range on Friday afternoon, gave me the result I got.
How do you usually prepare?

Hack2489ParticipantSLGC. Stab. Perfect day for Golf. playing off 18
Started well, 21 points after 8 holes.
From there on it was a train wreck, played the next 10 holes for 13 points.
Total of 34, new flag, should be happy but after a hot start, left feeling a bit Flat.
A highlight from the day was a Birdie of the par 5 third hole.
Good drive to the middle of the fairway, not overly long.
Second shot pulled left to be just off the fairway and 114m out.
Third shot bladed my 9 iron, looked like it was going off the green but pulled up 4 feet from the pin
Made the putt
That’s Golf !Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story …

Hack2489ParticipantSpoke to my golf coach on Tuesday about the impact of grip thickness on my golf swing.
As some may recall, I did the full bag fitting in early 2017, and from that had 2 papers added under the grips of my irons.
As you may then also recall, I acquired a set of stock 718 AP2 irons about 12 months ago as an ‘experiment’. Said AP2 have not left the bag, surprising myself that I could actually use them.
Anyway long story, short version, the 718 AP2 and my wedges (SM6 Vokey 52, 56 & 60) have had a bit of TLC. New grips + 2 extra papers under them all.
I went all ostentatious and had these fitted:

Hack2489ParticipantGood stuff! Before you know it you won’t have any 2017 games in your 20 handicap rounds!
Yeah 2023 should see some movement..🤦♂️
It turns out I have 9 games from 2017 in my last 20, so I’m thinking Commish is right on the money.
You blokes should get out there and play a bit more. Golf can be fun.
The oldest round in my last 20 is 3 Nov, six weeks ago. Some people have a life..
20 rounds every 6 weeks sounds like a life I could deal with tbh
You can look forward to it in 25 yrs when you retire. Prior to that you have a working life to lead. You did however get a taste of it whilst in the unemployed transition stage..😃
25yrs until ‘retirement’? Only if he’s 25 now … no one works full time past 50 these days, do they?
