CommishParticipantA forward tee on a par 3 with a pin tucked up behind a front bunker vs it playing as a long par 3 with pin back centre of green? Same course, very different shot and mindset needed.
I’d still probably hit it fat and have to chip on regardless.
Sounds verrry similar to my play at present.
CommishParticipantAnd so the slide begins out .6.
Look at the “bright” side. If the golf courses close…you wont slide as fast. 🙂
Very true!!! At the moment the courses are open and hopefully it will remain that way, only the clubhouses are closed.

CommishParticipantFor individual club comps it doesn’t matter how they compare to other clubs, but I am equally suspicious of the 1 or 2 shot differences between tees at an individual club
I have no actual data, just a sense that forward tees are a bit easier relative to back tees compared to the 1 or 2 shots you get on your playing cap
Agree… The difference to tiger tees and normal comp tees generally over the 18 holes is quite significant. The usual addition of 1 or 2 strokes on your handicap I do not believe compensates for the added difficulty of playing the back markers. Might not make too much difference to the big boomers but for us sub 200m off the tee bums, 2 shots on the handicap off the back tees means shit.
CommishParticipantAt moment some conflicting advice on “clubs” being able to continue with golf activities as the liquor license covers the entire property. It depends on what type of liquor license you have and it can vary a little from state to state.
If it goes ahead as having to be closed then golf is off the table for most venues!
GA will make advice known today.
That would be dependant on the licencing laws of each State. In NSW I think most clubs trade under a “Club Licence” which allows them to sell on and off premises. Don’t know if the other States are the same, but if the sale of alcohol was not forming part of the business whilst it was open for trade, ie for the purpose of golfing only, then the course would not need to close. The Pro Shop would however not be permitted to sell alcohol as is the case at a lot of courses. I think that is the case but I may have got it wrong.
CommishParticipantPhew
Yep… who woulda thunk
CommishParticipantlittle steps are good
Yep…as long as they are in the right direction…….not like some others on this site. (Not you either) 😉

My last six rounds have been woeful and I will now start to lose some quite low flags to be replaced by low 20 rounds. Gonna be heading north real quick but hope to end the slide.

CommishParticipantPS I used to have a clause in the T/C’s on the former site that anyone that is not registered to play in this event cant comment about the event. I may need to reimpose that!;)
So, I can put my name down, comment away and then pull out (blaming the corona-virus recession)?

Sure you can, but also remember that we get bombarded by the media every day with what is going on and their spin is generally a little more vociferous otherwise what they have to tell us is mundane. Even though you say you don’t wish to express Doom & Gloom, unfortunately that is exactly what is perceived. Although there are not many positives with this thing it is better to hear about them rather than the constant negatives, we get enough of that already. I would rather hear that you and the caddie are doing fine rather than the sky is going to fall if things don’t change.
CommishParticipantI suppose what you say makes sense in some respects, BUT isn’t that what handicaps are for in the first place. Lets take Pyls 420 metre Par 4, lets say it is rated 8 on the index. A player off say 4 plays off the back marker and someone on 28 plays off a Green marker some 80 metres in front so the length of the hole for them is 360M (don’t mean to give everyone a math lesson here). The 4 marker hits his ball 240M, the 28 marker hits his 180. 4 marker has 180 left and the 28 marker 180M. 4 marker now has 3 shots to get in the hole for par. 28 marker has 5 to go the same distance for par (handicap par that is) with both earning 2 pts for a stb round. It now comes down to skill level. How is if fair to the 4 marker or give him any chance of playing on a level field as the 28 marker.
I am not a big hitter by any stretch of the imagination and the way I have been playing over the passed 6 weeks is abominable, but that is due to my skill level, not my handicap. Why should I be given some form of advantage above my handicap just because I am a shit golfer. I either improve my skill level or continue to get blasted by good players.
I guess the fact as pointed out that if I was to improve, then my handicap would drop (unlikely at present) and I would move back toward the low marker, so yeah, I suppose there is a balance to it in some ways.
