Stab at Warra yesterday. Although rain threatened, we didn’t get wet. Course was wet underfoot and with a few puddles.
I started the round well, a chip-in, some 1-putts, some 3-points. After 8 holes, I stood on the 9th tee and mused that I might actually have a good round for a change. I had amassed 17 points and with just 11 putts.
Playing the 9th, I pushed my tee shot into a large pine on the right, my ball dropped into long rough under it and I fiddled my way to the green in 5 then 2 putts.
As I stood on the 10th tee, I had amassed 17 points with 13 putts. My tee shot hit a tree trunk on the left and rebounded down the 1st. Second shot was well struck but hit a tree trunk and rebounded back down the 10th. Finally on the green for four and 3-putted.
As I stood on the 11th tee, I had amassed 17 points with 16 putts. Tee shot good, 2nd shot went fishing for marlin with a big hook left. On the green for 3 then 3-putted.
As I stood on the 12th tee, I had amassed 18 points and 19 putts.
So much for my promising round !!! I had more rubbish and a few good holes, finishing with 28 points and with 33 putts.
Another 0.1 onto my capped ‘cap, creeping toward a hard cap just .8 away.

OB just remember the famous words from Kenny Rogers,” you never count your score when you are half way through the game, there will be time enough for counting when the round is done”.

So many players count score after 9 holes, been very guilty of doing this myself. I used to do this but then stopped because it builds tension and this causes you to force a score and make wrong shot decisions.

Electronic scoring means the running totals are always there on screen, no additions required.
We usually do a matchup @ 9 holes, just to make sure we’ve pressed the right buttons.

Of course, I forgot your club uses Mi score system. eventually all clubs will use this and we wont need to cut down trees to make paper scorecards. Although small clubs might take a while

    Stroke at Warra yesterday.
Gross 99, nett 77 Putting was terrible, nothing would drop. Six 3-putts, only four 1-putts, total 38.
Without all those 3-putts, I would’ve had a decent score.

When have 3 putts its good to look at cause speed control (long or short) or direction (miss Left or Right)
sometimes its not putter fault, if you hit your approach to green a long way 10m from hole, then have every chance of having 3 putt.

Today I played Mannum.SA a 9 hole course in excellent condition considering it is run by volunteers. Course was dry considering all the rain. grass greens and moderately fast and firm.
The mighty river Murray is running very high at moment mainly due to the floods in Qld back in March
still a nice play to stay for a few days.

    today I played 2 ball worst ball. scored 47 first 9. (3DB)
then played best ball next time around. 38 so some work to do on pitching and chipping
ball striking is good although I lost 3 yellow balls in the daisy lined rough next to fairways. Not to self use Red or Orange balls in early spring.
over all a lovely day with out any rain. and good practice for upcoming tournaments.

Not much golf was played in the last weeks of the trip.

Dubbo was a great course. $50 green fee.
Murray Downs near Swan Hill was a challenge ( $50 ) with lots of water and traps ( sand was not plentiful/ even making exit a bit of a lottery). we played the 9 holes at Tooleybuc a few times. it was fun. ( $25 fee)

I also liked Dubbo as well. Murray Downs is a difficult course but enjoyable.

Golf at Victor harbour on Friday. what a lovely course to play, lots of strategic holes and water.
game was a bit off today and par at last to finish with a 90 OTS.
    1xTB
    5XDB
    6xBog
    5x pars
    1x birdie.
game is really very consistent scoring at moment as nearly all last 5 rounds have been 17 to 21 over par. really struggling to break 90. short game is not sharp, however 4 DB and 1 x TB were caused by playing too aggressive, and not knowing the course, as hit into hazards which normally would alter clubs and avoid. Putting was good again today, and vison ball performed well.
    course was good condition.
travelling to Barossa in morning, might get a game in there with the lovely fine weather forecast high of 21 Deg.

A great days sight seeing today which included southern right whales, seals and pelicans.
A break in weather and fine day ahead so decided to play tomorrow at Victor Harbour.
Caravan park has a mini golf course so decide to warm up for big course, by playing 27 holes with the wife..
going well for first 6 holes then the starfish got me on 7th and I ended up with a 6.
    27 for first 9 wife 22
27 for second 9 inc a hole in 1 and starfish got me again on same hole
22 for third 9 1 x hole in ones and the pirate caused me grief on last with 5.
    77 for 27 holes vs wife 68.
sad cause I used my putter and a pro V, wife used shop putter and a cheap no name ball. coloured ball
The high spinning ball like a Pro V , could not apply any backspin and hence is of no use on mini golf, in fact jumped off side walls more than no name ball.
back to playing a vision ball tomorrow.

Stab at Warra yesterday. First round for quite a while, with operations when the weather was good, then pissing down when I could’ve played.
30 points, 30 putts. With only 13 putts on the front nine, the points got well ahead of the putts, but the putts slowly caught up on the back.
Cortisone injection in the hip today. Maybe that will help for tomorrow if we don’t get rained out.

practice at pitch and putt course at Neager park. always good to paly a pitch and putt to improve game.
rained all day today and rain is expected for next few days.
Its raining in SA at moment but fine weather coming this Sunday with some global warming kicking in and a temperature of 22, but back to normal and down to 15.next Monday

Next playing golf at Victor Harbour on Friday.
Back to see how house build is progressing on 8th September
preparing for SG tournament in Mid September at Leongatha, then Vets state championship in early October.

courses in South Gippsland closed due to the rain, in some parts as much as 90mm over weekend.
This has lead to the South Gippsland Championship being delayed until Sunday 11th September.
give me more chance to practice.

Hi all,our club is rightfully so declaring “mud rule”…..I thing it should just be oreffered lies as I cannot remember ever seeing a rule of golf being called a mud rule !…pref lies yes mud rule no….anyoneclarify for me…ps..cant find my rule book TIA

    Brown Man
refer rules of golf on Golf Australia web site
“Purpose. When conditions such as wet ground conditions throughout parts of the course may cause mud to stick to the ball, the Committee can choose to allow the player to lift, clean and replace the ball in the general area. Such relief should be limited to those portions of the course where needed.
While the Local Rule for Preferred Lies (Model Local Rule E-3) is designed for use only in areas cut to fairway height or less in the general area, this Local Rule can be used throughout the general area or restricted to specific areas. The Committee could choose to use both Local Rules permitting preferred lies in the fairways and cleaning the ball elsewhere in the general area.
It is not advisable to implement this Local Rule once play has begun for a stroke-play round. Doing so would allow players who had more holes to play the advantage of using it for a longer period of time. The Local Rule could be implemented once a match has begun between the play of two holes as opponents have an equal benefit.
For guidance on when and how this Local Rule may be used in order for scores to be submitted for handicapping purposes (for example, if it must be limited to fairway only), consult the rules or recommendations contained within the Handicap System operating in the local jurisdiction.
    Model Local Rule E-2
“When a player’s ball lies in [identify area, such as the general area, at the 6th hole, in the general area cut to fairway height or less, etc.], the ball may be lifted cleaned and replaced without penalty. The player must mark the spot before lifting the ball (see
    Rule 14.1
) and the ball must be replaced on its original spot (see
    Rule 14.2
    ).

See you in 2023 on the Murray or some other venue.

The new trail pack arrived yesterday, and so will put some of the trial balls in play next week. stay tuned for the evaluation
box had some gels, some yellows ,some with different cores and a variety of interesting markings
    .
The new gloves are the best and the packaging is very good, with the fine dimples providing excellent grip in wet, again will wear in tournaments coming up over next few weeks.

Thanks again Boz for making a great product.
