Stab at Warra today, in an actual comp.
Most of my game was rubbish. I recently changed (a few weeks ago) from a Vardon grip to two handed, in an endeavour to utilise some of Marcus Edblad’s tips. While that might have helped my drives a tiny amount, everything else suffered. So, today, whilst continuing two handed for drives, I reverted to Vardon for my iron shots with some improvement. But there were still far too many mistakes.

Today? Just 25 points. Putting was much better with no 3-putts and eight 1-putts for a 28 putt total. On that basis, I should’ve had a much better points score, but I didnt.

It was good to be back in the clubhouse for drinks but with all that space, it felt nearly deserted.

Stab at Warra today in beautiful golfing weather.
30 points with only two 3-points.
    32 putts with three 3-putts.
In the previous two rounds, I finished the 18th with 1 putt and 3 points. But today, the first putt (for 3 points) just skimmed the hole. The second putt did the same. I finished the hole with 3 putts and 1 point. Oh well.

First game back with VPGC since lockdown finished. What could have been better…..at Portsea GC, sunny and a light breeze and about 27 degrees. Stableford off 9 hcp and managed hitting off on the 1st hole…..shotgun start.

15 and 18 for 33 points. (The winner of the perpetual trophy had 37 so not far off.
One wipe and one birdie where I also snagged the NTP second shot prize. A few coldies on the balcony looking over the course and chatting with the club President. It’s great to be back. ☺

Stab at Warra today. A few drops of rain on the early holes but fine and sunny thereafter.
    Five 1-putts, no 3-putts or chip-ins; 31 putts.
Points: I had a wipe on the 3rd – ball hit trees and rebounded into the damned dam, drop, hit a tree on the way to the fairway and back down into that damned dam. Holed out for an 8 but it was only 1 putt. No other disasters but only one 3-point.
    Total of 32 points.

    Another stab at Warra today.
Storms aplenty yesterday. No power (no internet) or phone (no internet that way either) all day. At least I could light the gas hotplates with matches and not starve. Power came on just before 7:00pm but still no phone service.
Course was closed until 11:00 this morning to allow for some cleanup. My tee time was 11:14 so no problemo. Phone worked at the club, so covid check-in ok and miclub ok.
Storm clouds blew through all day but we only had a few wet holes.

    Points: 16/16 for 32 total.
    Putts: 16/18 for 34. Three 3-putts.

It could all have been much worse.

Oh the joys of living in Victoria. We had ducks swimming on the fairways and worms surfacing for air on the greens. A Buddhist would have spent a lot of time relocating the worms rather than crushing one. All in all not a bad result OB.

Stab at Warra today in perfect golf weather.
    31 putts, 32 points.
A couple of wipes, couple of 3 putts, no dramas.
Only notable features were a couple of really close chips.

I lose a 35 point flag so my handicap might creep up a tad.

Stab at Warra today in yet another great weather day.
I started with a 1-putt par which usually spells trouble for the rest of the round. But today, another 1-putt on 2 and again on the 3rd (not pars but still 2-pointers). At that point, my points were well ahead of my putts. Then came two 3-putts just to knock some sense into me. Finished the front with 16 points and fifteen putts.
On to the back with a 3-putt on 15 and a wipe on 16 meant 17 putts (total 32 putts) and 14 points (total 30 points). I try to keep points ahead of putts, as a bell-weather.

Drives were mostly straight up the middle but short on length. Chips were amazingly excellent except for a few complete stuff-ups. Oh well, that’s golf.

MM stroke & putting at Beacy with Olinda golf club yesterday.
Started on 19 (Lakes) and drove the green. It wasn’t close to the hole but I still won ntp for the day, then I 3-putted. I 2-putted every other hole on the Lakes nine for a 19 putt total there. My drives have been going straight lately but poor distance. Not so yesterday. Distance hadn’t improved but drives were often off target which meant a few chip outs back to the fairway costing shots. Hole 22 is a nemesis hole for me. It’s a fairly straight par 4 but with the green off to the left over a lake. My drive was weak, 2nd shot was to run up the fairway then chip over the lake but I hit the ball fat and still had an 8-iron left to the green. Into the drink it went. Next was over the green, on for 6, 2 putts for an 8. That’s the end of a stroke round having any chance. I had too many 6-2-1 (6 strokes, 2 putts, 1 point) and finished the Lakes with just 12 points.

Second nine (Hills front) was more normal with straighter drives, 17 points & 14 putts.

    Totals 29 points, 33 putts, nett 74.

Stab at Warra today. Could not have sought better weather.

A couple of wipes, only a few 3-points but chipped in on the index-1 hole for a 4-point. 16/18 for 34 points..
Putts were 15/14 for a 29 putt total.

A tad better than I have been doing lately.

Stab at Warra today. What could go wrong, did go wrong. Well, almost. No OOB, no lost or wet balls. But everything else was crap. No valid excuses from the weather either.
Drives, fairways, chips and putts all failed. Just 22 points, 37 putts. Missed the NAGA by one.

Even this post failed. I was logged in, but then when I posted, this dumb platform dumped the post and required my to log in again, twice. No wonder the site is almost deserted.

State Vets teams event at Yallourn on Mon & Tues.
Rain kept pissing down on Mon with the occasional sunny break. I don’t like playing in the rain and it showed in my miserable 19 point result.
The weather on Tues was better and my score rose a little to 25 points.
My scores were not the worst, but not far from it.
Neither West Gippsland team won, even though we all knew the course quite well.

In case anyone was wondering why I hadn’t posted, I’ve been busy and need recovery time.
Sat: Warra monthly medal, medal of medalists, qualifying round for club champs, stroke. All of that was delayed from the previous Saturday which was washed out. Due to time constraints, only one qualifying round in lieu of two. Nett 71, 28 putts, qualified for C grade champs knockout (top 8 in each grade).
Sun: Warra lost quarter final on the 18th. I had more than my fair share of abnormal bounces/deflections, such as ball deflecting sideways instead of continuing on.
Mon: Vets event at Moe followed by AGM. Championship again. The A grade players (up to 18) played stroke, the rest of us played stableford. Too many wipes and 1-points, total of 26 points. The course was in excellent condition although the rough was a bit too rough.
Tue: Regular stab event at Warra. 34 points and 30 putts.

So, after four days of golf in a row, I’m knackered. Tomorrow off.
