OldBogeyParticipantUsual stab at Warra today.
I did not play well. 12 out & back for a 24 point total. Two temp greens with the flags planted on fairways didn’t help. A poor excuse because some others had good scores.Which holes are temporary greens ?
why?11 & 12 Replacing the grass in front. Should be back to normal today.

OldBogeyParticipantStab at Warra today, temp greens gone.
15 out with two wipes, 13 back in with one wipe.
28 points. I lose a flag so the ‘cap will edge up a little. I might even get another stroke.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

Good score, Handicap seem a bit high as Lucas Herbert who plays on European tour is only on + 5.2.
pleased they had time to play instead of running around getting tested for Dans virus.

Out of interest I looked up the course slope etc. the Standard Scratch was 69 (par 72) and the slope from the Red tees was 122 so might alter the h’cap a bit for the day.
I’ve played Shep a couple of times – great little course not overally long and always played it in good condition.

Can break 80ParticipantFirst round yesterday at Royal Centenary park with Dancer.
Course is fantastic condition and great fun.
played off red tees.
some good hits, 3×3 putts, didnt keep score somewhere about 90.
Hard to play golf in a mask.
When temp gets over 30 degrees lots of players will drop over from lack of oxygen.Dancer kept his score he had 95 so would have won OOM the way he played

OldBogeyParticipantMultiplication stab at Warra yesterday, partner playing off 5.
We matched pretty well on the front for 42 points. But on the back we had a few failures and struggled at times for just another 23 points. Another 40 odd points would’ve had us in the winners’ circle, but a ball each was all we won.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

xrmanParticipantI played at the St. Arnaud Country Club course over the last 2 days. The name is grander than this central Victorian course deserves, but at $10 per round it was a bit of fun. The fairways are not irrigated a lot and as a result there are bare patches as the spring rains diminish. The grass is a mix of clover and rye grass (i.e. mown pasture) and the sand scrape greens are small and hard. The fairways were wider and long, probably the only defence of the course ( no huge trees, bunkers, not much shape in the design of most holes)
Positives were that I was hitting my tee shots 20-30 m further than I do at my home course. It was fun watching the ball hit the ground, bounce and keep going. Well it was fun up until one ran into the dam. I was getting into quite a pattern of play. Driver, 7 wood, chipper and putter once on the sand scrape. Hitting the sand scrape full lob is not productive, the ball “super balls” off 20-30 m away. Being that I rarely hit a green anyway, my game should be suited to scrapes courses. My secret weapon was the Arc Master putter. I lined the ball up at the hole and struck a firm shot at the desired path along the previously smoothed sand runway. it is not a matter of finesse. I found that my wife’s Cleveland HB Launcher irons worked just fine off the hard lies, something I didn’t expect. I do have a shallow swing path though. I scored in the high 80’s. No snakes and no ball thieving
crows.Negatives. After the first 9 I left my SW and LW in the car thinking they were not needed. I found the only bunker on one of the back 9 holes. It was a dirt bunker and hard dirt at that. I ended up putting the ball out sideways and chipping it back onto the scrape. It was probably safer than trying for a chip out with my 60/04 LW.
I had fun and I was the only person on the course for 2 days. Not bad for a course about 200 km north of Melbourne!

Can break 80ParticipantSand scrapes are such good fun. and certainly need a different game approach. you were wise to leave SW and LW in car
No ProV’s and back spin needed.
the trick to putting well is how well you learn the art of scraping the sand to obtain smooth surface for putt.1 user liked this post.

jrg1166ParticipantFirst round back after the Covid lock down in Melbourne
Playing off 15 at Rossdale I had 30 points but was really a tale of 2 nines. Very rusty on the front nine and only scored 12 points, got my grove back on the second nine and had 18 points which could have been a lot better

OldBogeyParticipantStab at Warra today. A few good holes of 3 points each and a few more wipes. 14 out & back for a miserable 28 point total.
I had some fun in a couple of bunkers trying gentle outs but failing, so I continued to successfully repeat the failures quite precisely. I could hit the lip at the top of the bunker every time.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

If you are hitting the top lip that shows consistency in technique.
