It was perfect golfing weather today, if only we had been allowed out to play.

    ditto for today

Great day in the garden though. Brownie points from “her indoors”! She said,” It is probably dry enough to cut the lawns in a hour or so”. I offered to start the mower for her. Apparently, that was not what she had in mind. I had my second Covid shot today, so I am resting in front of the TV now. The nurse said not to tax my myself physically today.

We had 4 yachts cruising out in the harbour today. I guess that is about as socially distanced as you can get, but hardly exercise on a keel boat. I can’t see Dan releasing us form home detention any time soon.

    1) I went out to the golf course to add water to my cart’s batteries ; my day’s outing. It might be drying out a bit.
    2) I did some indoor putting at 10 foot using the Inesis Tour 900 balls. Nice! at $39 dozen for the yellow ones.

SO we don’t have anyone on here from non-lock down states, still playing golf?

OK I agree with Hack2489 wrote to a point.

The point being the edge of the metro area, at which PGA professionals become a bit like hen’s teeth.
A newbie could ask local golfers for advice, if he/she knew any. In my limited experience, a lot of club golfers know not a lot about club selection. Most have forgotten what it was like to be a beginner.

While I was buying some decent golf balls ( Inesis Tour 900 ) I noticed that they had a beginner’s set for sale. It had 7 clubs for $359.The set was:
    1) Mini Driver 14 degree/ 42.5 ”
    2) Hybrid 22 degree /39 ”
    3) 6/7 iron 30 degree
    4) 8/9 iron 39 degree
    5) PW 45 degree
    6) SW 56 degree
    7) Mallet putter
    Stand bag at $95.

The one disappointment for me living in the sticks is that Decathlon won’t freight bigger items . Still that sort of set composition makes a lot of sense to me, in that there is nothing too hard to hit to frustrate a beginner.

I found a pair of Puma wet weather shoes for $49 at http://www.gannongolf.com.au

    fit seems fine

The only issue is that they are white= a lot of cleaning needed.

With this nice sunny weather, I might just wait a bit longer for the grass to dry somewhat and then mow it.
In the meantime, considering that we aren’t allowed out to play, I might watch a movie.
It could be worse, I could be stuck in a quarantine motel room or a high rise commission flat, or with little kids.

or you could be stuck in a caravan in regional Victoria.
with limited internet which is good as dont hear the BS of the world.

I was thinking of you the other day Geoff, being stuck in a caravan. my mate Tony drove to Mildura for a weeks vacation and golf, the day before lock down. They packed up and came home.

Retail therapy today ( again) might just be the highlight of my day,
I received a package from http://www.decathlon.com.au this morning. I wanted to evaluate the products as part of my role as prize purchasing officer for the Glenelg Veterans Golf association. The only annoying thing with this site is that they won’t freight many of their items.
I bought some Inesis Tour 900 and Distance 100 balls for evaluation. I had heard from the Backyard Golfer in Italy and Golf Side Kick in Thailand (You Tubers) that these balls were good value. The Tour 900 is a urethane ball prices at $49/ 12 and the Distance 100 is Surlyn cover at < $20 a dozen. The distance come loose in a box and are a dull white. The Tour 900 come in sleeves of 3 and look glossy. Made in Taiwan.
I needed a new golf glove, so I bought 2 models and a pair of rain gloves to try. XL fits me well.
The final thing I bought was a small Inesis rain umbrella for my push cart. The course will probably be bone dry by the time I get back out there post lock down( #7 for regional Victoria)
Once I try these products, I will report back for your “edumication”.

I don’t feel that bad about my use of the credit card now. My wife is ordering another box of Bremerton “Tamblyn”, an excellent blend form Langhorne Creek in S.A. , after listening to Dan Andrews this morning. Reading between the lines it will be at least two weeks before he considers ending lock down, possibly longer. We might need to order two boxes!

What do you do when you can’t play golf in brilliant sunshine, other than curse? Cut the lawns down a bit, and check the bee hives, watch some T.V. while ironing and maybe some retail therapy.

I came across a TS2 27 degree hybrid on Market Place at a cheap price. I have been increasingly frustrated by the 29 degree Tour Edge E521 iron-wood I have been using instead of a 6 iron. It is a game improvement design with a lot of off set ( anti- slice design feature) which I have found difficult to get used to. 50% of my shots are missing left. I am hoping the TS2 set at 29 flat will do a better job.

I have ordered some Puma waterproof golf shoes too on Gannongolf.com.au. My old leather foot joy black leather shoes are starting to fall apart of 5 seasons.

Veterans golf at Balmoral tomorrow has been cancelled, of course.

Lawns hacked back a bit, went for a bicycle ride in the sun but the wind is blowing hard, washing done, now for a movie and some ironing! Restrictions are keeping my grand kids at home a bit more often than is usual,so it is quiet. I have two friends going down hill with cancer, and now our dog too. It is a bit depressing really! I recall my Dad in his 80’s saying their only social outing was attending their friend’s funerals. Not so funny now.

I forgot , I hit 10 ball out of the wet deep grass in my side yard with the 60 degree. One fail and it hit the fence 15 m away with a bang.

Comrade Dan is closely following the communist manifesto: invoking a police state, destroying private enterprise making everyone dependent on the government for survival, subsuming any remaining enterprises into government instrumentalities, banning social interaction, jailing dissenters.

It is very 1984 -ish isn’t it. I think it was Churchill ( not a commie) who said,” Never waste a good disaster,” for political gain.
Still now that lock down has been defeated by the virus in N.S.W. it will be interesting if our leaders will step up with the next strategy as an interim measure as we approach the 80% vaccination rate. I am still unsure whether that is 80% of the total population, the adult population,or whether it means 80 % of those offered a vaccination. I am certain that Premiers will all have their own interpretation f that point.

Interim measures? If they didn’t think of a strategy for this situation, then why are we paying them?

I can foresee that the more desperate the ” Freedom” marchers become, the more likely that they will arm themselves in self defence against the Police force. Images of the Japanese anti Vietnam marches , with helmets, batons, gas masks, long staves for horses come to my memory. The existence of the groups with non -compliance as a “modus operandi” have torpedoed the lock down in N.S.W. The genie is out of the bottle and will cross State borders in time. Now what?

You have under estimated Dan’s political skill. He knows that in rural Victoria we don’t vote for the ALP, except in the regional cities. Therefore upsetting us will not affect his power base. His ” ring of steel” keeping folks within lock down areas failed (again), but it was inevitable since transport drivers should have been #2 on the vaccination list, had anyone in government bothered to learn from the 1919 Pandemic (the big one). They are the main vector of transmission, other than the dickheads in denial that have been infiltrating even out as far as Portland.

Adriano and I had a post work/ pre- lock down hit out for 12 holes this afternoon
Conditions were mild with soggy underfoot , bare lies on occasions ( MUD) with a slight NW wind.

After my last game I wanted to work on developing a fairway finder off the tee.. For me that is a straight / slight fade shot that goes about 180 m carry. I hit this shot on every hole with some control on start direction. I wanted to use my 6 Hybrid ( 29 degree) as much as I could to evaluate whether to keep the club in the bag , or not. Of late I have not been confident with this club. It is a Tour Edge E521 iron-wood, a very draw biased game improver that I find easy to hit too far left. Too much off set for me. Today I got it to work, as long as I aim 10 m right of my target. I continued using the Single length hybrid to chip the ball off the wet verges near the green. It is getting better direction and strength wise. My putter worked today too. I didn’t miss by much and speed control was good. I hit a few good 4W approach shots near 170m , but I was 50 /50 with the 7W. It isn’t the club to hit off mud. I worked out that I need to add 10 m to my bump and run/ partial pitch shots for the wet/ soft conditions. I added one club and it worked better getting closer to the hole. It takes a leap of faith that it wont run through the hole.

Overall a good session. My wife just told me that Dan has closed sport in regional Victoria ( again). Sigh!

Maybe the Mexicans that are not in lock down have become tired of wet feet, mud in the their eyes, unpredictable ball response and hypothermia and are staying indoors. Maybe the BB’s are being thoughtful in not rubbing salt into NSW and Melbourne golfer’s wounds? Highly unlikely!
