    Yeah…nah.

Golf courses are open in Regional…and operating normally (or Covid normal) – no staying on premises, masks required, no comp. But groups of 4 are on.

Can I ask why there is no comp??

No! To do that we would have t understand the difference of 4 people playing golf and 4 people playing golf in competition and how it related to the risk of virus transmission differential. I guess it is similar to the risk of infection you are exposed to playing golf solo for the last 4 weeks. Out doors and with strong winds, there must be some sort of vortex effect that circulates your expired aerosol ladened with virus/ bacteria that escaped your mask and re entered through your now wet mask.

You must need to be a health advisor to make sense of it. My infection control training and experience in aerosols and their management is not advanced enough for this issue.

In other words, they are a pack of wankers that must have some ” rule” to make life just that little bit difficult, even though it makes no sense.

My system is so much more refined than yours. ” Whack; Oh dear!” occasionally morphing to ” Whack; Bugger” as deterioration occurs.

It felt good to book a tee time on Friday. Enjoy it while we can , eh? I will be working hard raising sponsorship for the annual Rotary Art Show for the next five weeks , so there won’t be much time for golf.

At least you are identifying where the problem is coming from. Say you are 3 putting a lot. Is it due to lack of putting skills or is it your chipping inaccuracy leaving you a 30 m 1st putt? Why were you bad at chipping? was it poor skill or was it the crap iron shot that missed into a poor landing area.

Dan has spoken , and spoken, and spoken again on TV. I found eventually a list of what he ranted on about ( i turned him off) and we might be back on the course from Friday morning. Possibly? Perhaps, subject to change without notification.

    The two issues that Dan has failed to address are;
    1) failure to isolate essential workers ( covid exposed) from their families ( 40 % of daily new cases in the home) ; same as last year in the quarantine hotels
    2) failure to immunize transport workers/ and or use rapid antigen tests prior to each shift. (Leads to rapid spread along transport routes.)

Rural people moving around is one thing risk wise, but leakage form Metro is another. It happens, even though retailers are required to ask for ID and refuse service to them. Only State wide lock down deters them, which is why Dan does it. It is cheaper for him too.

Changed my scoring system around for Sunday’s review – putting more of the responsibility on the long game when it puts me in a very difficult up and down situation, including any bunker shot

Reasoning is that even the best in the world get about 50% from the bunkers so for me any up and down from the sand is basically a bonus shot

So Sunday I was 9 over
    0 driver
    -1 hybrid – pulled 35m left
-3 irons – 2 big pushes on first 2 holes, both ending up as pars but the +1 will go to the LW bunker shot on 1 and the 15 footer on 2, big pull on 12 into a bunker well short of the green
    0 for wedges – +1 for PW to 2ft on 3, -1 for fat SW on 14
-2 for iron punch shots, both clipped trees
+1 for LW bunker shot on 1 to 2ft
0 for PW chips although I didn’t get any up and down they weren’t bad
0 for LW chips as it finished inside 5ft
-3 for Texas wedges – 2/5 up and down
    -1 for putting – +2 for saves outside 5ft, -3 for misses inside 5 and a 3 putt

So -6 long game -3 short game

    I like this analysis style;

Our Illustrious Leader ( aka Dan Andrews) is hinting that regional Victoria will be released from lock down this week. That is, the risk of contracting Covid 19 on an isolated golf course ( bugger all) is now acceptable enough to let u splay again. Thank you OIL!

He is also intimating that he will use regional Victoria as a test bed for his strategies for opening up to 2X Vaxxed persons.
Seeing that we have zero cases for the last 12 months, I question the value of such experiments being extrapolated to Melbourne.

When can we expect a plan to stop intra-famaily infections from essential workers and rapid antigen test for transport workers?

I would consider an sizable offer to come out of retirement to head the health dept. as long as I get the same indemnity cover that Dan et. al. have ( I can’t recall the details)

    Thanks Geoff, back at you!
I am going for a bike ride around the lagoon, with hundreds of others and my daughters and their children, rather than meeting in the relative safety of my house. As you know the wind always blows down here and ventilation inside ins’t an issue. Only the direction and speed varies. Open a few doors and hypothermia isn’t far away.

As is usual our weather has changed. I went for a walk on a few holes on the golf course yesterday in the sunshine, but today it is pouring down. The good thing is the rain is extending up north to the Wimmera/ Mallee region, where they really need it. Who knows , Broken Hill might also get some rain.

Isnt it the height of stupidity, you can walk safely around the course, but if you swing a club thats not allowed .

Well, yes it is silly. I can imagine in busy clubs in the metro area, even solo social gold might lead to small congregation/ crowd in the car park/ club house vicinity ( similar to the walking tracks in town at present) , but with on line booking/ payment as we have in SW Vic clubs ( Bookatee) it would not be an issue. I guess those in planning have not ever been to a country golf course?

I rode my bicycle for exercise yesterday, using a section of the Lagoon exercise path and passed about 20 people in two minutes. That would never happen at the golf course.

I also struggle with the mandatory mask wearing outside too. If I can’t socially distance near others I put one on, otherwise I don’t. There is no evidence to support mask wearing outside, yet adopted by our government as a visible compliance with ” rules”. Wearing a mask while playing golf solo? Stupid. All it does is wet the mask and make it useless when you might need it .

We sound like a bunch of old blokes carrying on in the bar about the good old days. I wish we could be them right now.

    Grumpy old men

I saw a bumper sticker that said, ” I’d rather be a grumpy old fart than a young dick head !”
