WeetbixParticipant8/14 fairway – overall drove the ball well today and had no dropped shots off the tee – although a pop up on 2 led to a triple and even if my first punch was good it would have left a long shot for a GIR on the short par 5, and a couple others left challenging shots with tree trouble that led to a double and a bogie.
6 GIR – this was disappointing as I missed some very gettable greens with short irons and wedges. And the bunkers were GUR and often full of water so that left some very short sided chips over bunkers. Dropped 4 shots with poor approaches that left me badly short sided or with no shot
– Fat 8i on 3 well short and amongst trees
– Pulled 9i into a bunker on 8
– PW hit a tree I was trying to fade around on 15
– Pushed LW behind a bunker on 18 (really bad shot)5/13 up and downs – 6 shots dropped plus missed a birdie. Not terrible apart from a couple of thin LW lob attempts over bunkers. A couple more down would have been pretty much where I need to be – better than 50%
– 1/2 Texas
– 2/4 8 iron chips
– 1/4 PW chips
– 0/3 LW lobs
– 1/1 LW splash31 putts – 1 3 putts – but also made some good second putts and up and down putts in the 3-6 ft range. Not unhappy at all with the putter.
The punch shots on 2 were the only really shocking shots, and the 2 thin lob wedge chips. Hopefully can keep the driver going well and get the short irons and wedge approaches going.
WeetbixParticipantPlayed Oxley with Brisbane Fairways today off 11 – stroke round.
The rain on Friday night was torrential so we weren’t sure we would get a game in. But with only a few showers Saturday the course actually came up really well, with the greens running well and the fairways mostly fine. Got a few chunks of mud on some shots but no complaints at all.
Started poorly with some really bad punch shots from the trees on 2 which led to a triple on the short par 5 which was my worst score of the day and one of two wipes. Followed that with a double bogey wipe on 3 after a terrible 8i on the par 5 (lucky double as my chip shot rolled through a bunker. So with the bogie on the 1st that had me 6 over after 3, off 11 – not looking good.
But things improved after that and managed to finish the front 9 over and then birided 10 to be 8 over. Went on a run of 4 pars in a row to start the back with 5 3 pointers in a row which made up for my 14 point front.
Then stumbled a bit to finish double par bogey bogey but not too bad so finished 3 over on the back and 22 points.
So ended up 84 net 73 – 1 over – and 36 points which was good enough for 4th out of 33 comp players today.
Wynnum Open next Sunday so hopefully can continue the 10 to 14 form!
WeetbixParticipantGood stuff Deege
I love some golf stats!
It will be interesting to see how the course management test pans out, – Piggy and I had a good chat about that subject a little while ago and it’s an interesting one

WeetbixParticipantso I need to check the flags before I tee off on each hole too… jeepers, this is enough to send a man to drink
Make sure they are in the hole?
WeetbixParticipantI have played a few more holes over in my head again….
When we get around to the first, it will be a line as far left towards the bunker as possible to take the front greenside bunker out of play as much as possible.
Then knowing that there is 10m to carry the bunker from the front of the green distance.
The safe approach is a bail out left hand side, but that is naturally a nasty slippery chip and/or putt …Why not just lay up short of the bunker? It’s not far in from there anyway
WeetbixParticipantSomeone needs to ask the good egg, how he went yesterday..just a tip 😎
*the GREAT egg
Had -2 in par, not too bad, thanks for.asking 😊What about your played to scratch 2 weeks ago? Be a little boastful Galoot! 😎

WeetbixParticipantPlayed Arundel Hills today and the course was in very good condition. A bit wet in spots from yesterday’s decent drop of rain, but the tees, fairways and greens were in very good condition. Bunkers a firm but playable.
The wind started fresh while the rain fell on the first, back nine. Then it got quite strong on the front nine. Tough conditions showed in our group of 15 where the highest score was 33 points.
Had a real up and down day including 3 birdies but only 3 pars, with 6 bogies, 3 doubles and 3 triples. 16 back and 15 front for 31 points.
9/14 fairways – started and finished solidly with the driver but dropped on 3 4 and 6 with driver (5 is a par 3). They weren’t terrible shots but they were the wrong shots on those holes. Dropped 1 other shot off the tee because of a fat hybrid on 2.
6 GIR – not good enough although 1 other was on for 3 after a poor tee ahot, and another 4 approaches shots were just off. Drooped 4 shots from a hooked 4i on 12, a short sided bunker shot from a 9i on 17 (unlucky bounce) and a topped PW on 8 which ended up in the water and dropped on the same spot so cost 2 shots.
4/15 up and down – 11 shots dropped here – definitely not good enough. Some should have been straight forward, some were tough. But it wasn’t where it needs to be.
32 putts – 2 3 putts was balanced against 2 long putts in the 20ft+ range dropped for birdies.
Some good signs but still way too many errors and not enough up and downs
