    Short game today
1 7i from the trees was aimed just to avoid the bunker not to get down so did its job
2 PW chip from short of the green to 5ft and down
3 PW chip soft to 10ft
4 PW chip almost in and down
5 PW pitch from 25m a bit soft to 15ft
7 8i chip from short a bit fat to 20ft
    8 Texas in for birdie
9 PW chip was weak to 25ft
11 Texas too firm to 6ft
    12 LW pitch from 30m to 15ft
13 LW chip from under trees was thin but almost made the long return putt
14 PW chip almost holed and down
15 LW chip to 4ft but didn’t convert – really good chip though
16 PW chip short to 8ft
17 LW pitch from 65m over tree to 10ft – really would have liked to sink that one

Overall pretty good but still shots to save
Very happy with my PW chipping from close by the green
Only 1 really poor contact but that was punching from under a tree so was challenging – but wasn’t too bad a result

Played Caboolture today. Kudos to Turfers who through drought and now flooding rains has managed to maintain the course really well. The greens are excellent – good speed, roll very true and are very consistent across the course. They have preferred lie in place but barely need it. Some bunkers were full of water and should have been GUR but otherwise it was great.

    I played ok. 2 birdies 4 pars 10 bogies 2 doubles
    41 for 18 front 42 for 17 back off 11

6/13 fairways – dropped 2 shots here. Driver was a mixed bag but mostly ok.

2 GIR – too many thin irons today. Dropped a shot from a topped 4h on 14, and 3 from a pushed 5i punch on 1, a thin 9i on 13, and a weak 4i on 16. This was a disappointing stat, although I did have a number of others that weren’t far off – 2 Texas and 6 PW chips from close by the green.

4/15 up and down – dropped 6 shots here:
    1/2 Texas
0/4 LW – dropped 1 shot and all of them were ok and gave me good opportunities including 2 from inside 6ft
    3/7 PW – dropped 3 shots
    0/1 8i
0/1 7i which wasn’t even aimed at the hole

32 putts – 2 3 putts but overall putted pretty well so no complaints

Could have easily dropped a couple of chips and other putts but it was good to feel fairly solid around the greens today – hopefully a sign of things to come

Biggest area for improvement is definitely getting more greens in regulation. Quite a few close so not terrible but not many 2 putt pars isn’t where I want to be

Played Caboolture today. Turfers has done a great job maintaining the course through rain and drought. The greens are excellent.

They have preferred lie in place but it’s not really necessary.

    I had 41 for 18 and 42 for 17 for 35 all up – took my handicap down 0.3 to 11.1

    That sucks Peppas

Some clubs seem to teach their staff that the customer should be grateful to be allowed there

Those clubs aren’t somewhere I would choose to join – where’s te fun? And usually the members are so full of themselves they just annoy the hell out of you

We chose to stick with 36 for Brisbane Fairways
If you can’t play to it that’s fine but you aren’t winning prizes until you can

And that sounds perfectly reasonable. I’m not sure how may clubs have adopted the new limit. But it seems a little ridiculous that you can shoot 117 and play to handicap.

Its all relevant isnt it? A 30 cap, 20, 10 cap whats the diff, it is what it is- some people just arent good and will never be and shooting 130 is their norm..

Main thing would be that the handicap is not a new one, but based on enough rounds to know its consistent with what a person may shoot.

I guess at some point we chose a limit for where you are competing in the sport vs going out and having a bash

36 is totally arbitrary I suppose but 2 shots a hole is as reasonable as any other limit

It’s probably a little rough on those who for physical reasons max out at say 160m with driver as they need a shot a hole just to get to the green – but then they generally are also a bit less sideways too so there’s a bit of an offset

    Short game rundown
1 Texas a bit weak coming through the trippy rough
3 PW from short landed soft and finished 8ft short
4 PW from pin high right rolled 3ft past but missed
5 LW pitch caught branch then next from deep rough was under it. Then LW chip to 3ft and down.
6 PW chip from over the green rolled out
8 PW chip long to 10ft and down
9 8i chip up the hill short but Texas up and down
10 LW chip off downhill lie was great but a bit short – was very happy to not blade it
11 LW 3rd on par 5 was a bit thin and over, the LW chip back was a little short
14 PW chip was a bit short but was a good strike
17 LW over bunker was a bit short but very happy with it
18 LW chip up steep slope was a bit fat, got the nect one to 3ft and down

Played Keperra with Brisbane Fairways and started well with 2 pars and then got on the bogie train and never got off

    4 pars 13 bogies 1 triple

9/13 fairways – drove well apart from a wet hook on 16 for 1 dropped shot

4 GIR – greens were super firm and balls were rolling through – including a SW that finished at 130m after landing about pin high at 113m. Should have made more up and downs but didn’t manage it so didn’t score

4/16 up and downs – dropped 10 shots here:
    0/1 8i chip for 1 dropped
1/5 PW chips for 3 dropped – the other was to 3ft but missed the putt
2/8 LW chips for 6 dropped shots
Chipped well except for a thin one on 11 (3rd shot on par 3) which was good, just didn’t convert many of them

    32 putts – 1 short miss and 1 3 putt

Disappointing that I couldn’t convert some good shots and some good chips – putting wasn’t terrible but definitely left some out there
