Played OK at Gailes apart from a really poor start. The course bunkers are very hard – but I like that so played well from them – but otherwise the course was very nice. Started on 10 off 9.
    11 pars 5 bogies 1 double 1 triple
10 over 83 off the stick for net 74 and 35 points

9/15 fairways + 2 just off – drove ok except pushed it OOB on 10 (some bad bounces didn’t help but I set up with the face a bit open and that’s what happened). 2 dropped shots but pretty happy overall.

8 GIR – dropped shots from a chunked 9i on 15 after a cracking drive, a toed 9i on 3, and punched into a tree on 8. But overall was pretty happy with how I hit the ball today – hope I can keep that up.

4/11 up and down – dropped 4 shots here with the rest being unrealistic or 3rd shots on par 5s:
    1/2 texas – 1 dropped shot
    1/3 PW chip – 2 dropped shots
    1/1 LW chip
    0/3 SW sand – 0 dropped shots
    1/2 LW sand – 1 dropped shot
Very happy with my bunker play today, and chipping was pretty good – hope that the improvement continues

32 putts – 1 dropped 3 putt. Didn’t sink anything of note apart from a par save on 4, but no birdie putts made despite a few good chances. Not bad but definitely lots of room for improvement.

Overall I am very happy with the round, particularly given the start. Playing off 9 and OOB triple on first hole and 3 putt bogie on the second hole left me 4 over after 2 with only 5 shots left for the rest of the round. To make it 6 over without a birdie and including a double was pretty positive. Should be a flag and a small drop.

Is this a range finder or a launch monitor?

I wonder if the scratch ratings are robust enough to support allowing the field to choose their tee in a comp

I suspect that people who were really keen for an advantage would find a tee (I’m guessing the shortest available) to maximise their scoring chances

Averages don’t get easier or harder depending on numbers

For example at the extreme a team of 1 will still need to score more than a team of 20’s average – they can easily lose by miles

For example if Piggy was the team of one

Good thing is that I can cancel at any time if great bargains pop up

It’s also possible that if the shackles come off in Oz but international travel remains risky that people will flood out for holidays locally and prices will head up so we will see

Easy to cancel if I need to

I booked accom at Chateau Elan at the Vintage – was cheaper but also allowed for cancellation up to a few days before if I need it

Only 5 minutes from the dinner venue

Tossing up whether to drive down – will save a tonne
