Played the Wynnum Open off 9

Long game was dodgy all day but only cost me 4 shots

But put a lot of pressure on my short game which was abysmal costing me 12 shots

And putting cost me another 5

So with a birdie I had 50 back and 40 front for net 11 over 81 (stroke event)

Had 3 7 in 4 holes and one of those was on a par 3

Just a round to move on from

Was 4 over for the last 8 holes which was ok but wasn’t very good play just didn’t get in huge trouble

Carbrook Tuesday to hopefully turn it around before first round of matchplay with Brisbane Fairways on Sunday at Redcliffe

Regular rain with plenty of sun as well – no excuses for anything but perfect coverage and lush grass now

Looking forward to the Wynnum.Open on Sunday and Carbrook on Tuesday

    Really good

Southport was excellent as always with nice fast greens

Carbrook was schmick 2 weeks ago

And I’m told Wynnum is in very good condition too

Round at Southport today off 8 and I had basically blown it in 2 as I tripled the 1st and bogies the 2nd so half of my handicap gone!

Finished 7 over 44 front for 16 points and 6 over 40 back for 16 points also

    7 pars 10 bogies and 1 triple

5/13 fairways – dropped 3 shots but also hit some good drives too – got better as I improved my alignment at set up

7 GIR – dropped 1 shot with a very weak 6 iron on 14, but longer irons were pretty poor today. Short irons and wedges were pretty good

    2/8 up and downs
Thinned a PW attempting a 30m bunker shot on 1 which cost me 2 shots
0/2 from bunkers but they were decent shots just not close enough
0/1 PW chip – too short
2/3 LW chips – happy with that

36 putts – 3 dropped with 2 3 putts and a missed up and down

Overall not too bad but dropped too many shots

Wynnum Open on Sunday and Carbrook on Australia Day next week

    Out to 9.7

I am in a happy place tonight. Today I played the Stableford comp at Heywood gold club and broke 80 for the first time in a proper competition. I didn’t break 80 by much ( 79 OTS) with 42 points, but I can say that I finally hit a score with a 7 in front of it.

Conditions were good, with little wind on the front 9 , but it built as the round progressed. The fairways were grassy and greens smooth and fast, compared to my home club. My tee shots were accurate, but still shorter than ideal. I got the hybrids to work today and hit more GIR than usual with my irons.

I hit 3 birdies, 7 pars, 6 bogeys and 2 double bogeys. Both doubles were results of poor choice on clubs pitch/ chip shots. One were I should have used LW to avoid the ball running off a green and taking three putts to recover. The other I used the LW instead SW for a full shot into the green. It came up 5 m short of the green, needing another chip to get on the green.

    Congrats – that’s a big milestone

Played Carbook today off 8 and started well with a 3 over 39 for 19 on the front, then crumbled like biscuit base on the back nine with 11 over and 11 points
    85 net 77 for 30 points
Handicap willngo up as I’m dropping a flag too

    1 birdie 6 pars 7 bogies 4 doubles

5/14 fairways, dropped 3 shots from 2 sliced drives and a topped 3h. Tee shots weren’t to bad overall but jad a strong left to right shape from the start

4 GIR, dropped 5 shots from a poor punch out of trees that hit a tree, a pushed iron into a hazard, a weak iron approach and an OOB Mini Driver

7/11 up and down, 4 dropped – the most positive aspect of today
    4/4 Texas
1/4 LW chips (1 was the chip in birdie)
    2/3 PW chips

31 putts, 3 dropped – 2 3 putts and a miss from 2ft – putting saved me a few shots on the front but cost me them back on the back

Overall frustrating round. Not abysmal but the back was.

    Back to work tomorrow

    Bribie Island next Sunday

Super wet day at Maroochy River today with Wozz
Played off 9 and had 18 on the front then lost it for a few holes after the turn
Then went 2 x 3 point pars in a row
    Then the heavens opened
My club hit the ground fat and flew up over my head and over Panda and Wozz behind me on one hole!
    Only 10 on the back

Was great to have a hit with Wozz again

    Carbrook Sunday

Pigskin got us a game at Brookwater today
I played off 11 off the gold tees

Had 42 front for 17 points and 41 back for 19 points
So 11 over 83 off the stick and 36 points which was a played to 8
Dropped a 6.6 today so handicap went up from 9.0 to 9.2

    9 pars 7 bogies 2 doubles

8 /14 + 1 nearly fairways – drove it pretty decently but deiver cost me 2 shots: a slice on 1 and a pull on 18, and mini driver cost me a shot pushed into trees

7 GIR + 5 Texas – dropped 2 shots from a pushed 5i on 2 and a pulled 4i on 6, but plenty of good shots. Got away with a couple of thin approaches into short par 3s – pars on both. Overall not too bad.

    6/9 up and down:
    4/5 Texas
    0/1 8i chip – really wussed it
1/1 SW chip – almost holed it
0/1 LW chip – bit wussy
1/1 LW sand – almost holed it
Pretty decent result overall. Still a bit sooky chipping though.

33 putts – 3 3 putts was disappointing and again after Pacific couldn’t drop anything significant

Very happy to have a good round at a tough course
Playing Maroochy River on Thursday so hopefully can post something really solid there – and maybe get a birdie!

Yeah – the final score was decent – it was the start that got me
    Double 1pt
    Bogie 1pt
    Bogie 1pt
    Double wipe
6 shots out of 10 gone in 4 holes

30 points for the remaining 14 holes was much better – happy with that
