Stab at Warra yesterday. No comp but handicapped.
No wipes but only four 3-pointers and nine 1-pointers. 31 points
34 putts with a few 3-putts. Greens were uneven near the holes – too many feet on the soft ground.
    Weather was good, 10°

Why would you submit a card for handicap when not in a non comp round…especially if greens are not good and it is cold and not favourable for good scoring.

better to use non comp rounds as practice to play holes a different way to develop a different game plan. ie play 1st hole with a 5 iron off tee, or take 2 extra clubs for approach every shot and hit to back of green, or hit into bunkers to practice getting out every time.

by the way the feet marks around the hole are what Putting Guru Dave Pelz referred to as lumpy donuts

Although a ‘non comp’ round, it was still handicapped.
Just to get rid of that bloody anchor and get a fair handicap.

We’re only a week into winter and I’m over it already.
Pissing down outside. It’s supposed to get to 13°, but at midday it has only just crawled up to 7°.
Too wet for golf yesterday. 90% chance of it being too wet for golf tomorrow.

The only saving grace is that, as the dates tick on over, my cap point is increasing. Provided I can put in another handicapped round so it reads my new cap point for the following round. I’m sick of being hard capped. Yeah I know, it’s only a stroke or two.

    Overnight?
    Or was that the maximum?

    10° when I started @ 11:30. 1° overnight, 3° for the early starters, a balmy 12° for the max. Yes, it’s winter.

All bookings for the week were cancelled and removed from the system because they didn’t conform to the new restrictions.
Re-opened yesterday at 3:00pm. So I got a better time.

Still working my way through Breaking Bad season 4.

In your ‘steps forward’, have you learned to keep your cart charged ? Mine’s petrol.

So the Andrews government has lifted restrictions in rural/ regional Victoria supposedly. So here is not so sunny Portland we went from no virus cases prior to the lock down and no restrictions on golf, to no cases still, but no access to our modest practice facilities and no competition golf. How illogical!

    Agree entirely xrman.
At Warra, they’re running a raffle on each round. You play stab, get handicapped and a raffle is drawn to win prizes, unrelated to your score. I didn’t win any raffles last time nor will I win any this time. But at least we’re out playing golf.

Maybe the R&A and USGA could learn a few tips from commandant Andrews and his lieutenants on how to make a simple game even more complicated.

I did get a booking for tomorrow when some Melburnians who are not permitted to attend withdrew their bookings.

My question (for anyone really) . What is wrong with being steep? When I hear people say this it sounds like you have an incurable disease. Or you need to be moved to an secluded island away from proficient golfers .. hahah

Just want to know what is really bad about it ? I’m thinking I’ve been doing this for decades and kinda just deal with it

I’ve seen a lot of instructional videos and even bought some dvds in days gone by.
The methodology promoted by two instructors was to use a more vertical than usual swing. They believed in it.
Others promote a flatter swing and they believe in that.

So does it really matter ? Probably not. What matters is whether you can bring the club head reliably into the back of the ball.

Homeland . Up to series 7 now. It looks as if golf is back on Friday in rural Victoria.

Yeah, golf is back on but I have a problem. I didn’t book golf for Sat as I expected I’d be going to my other course in Melb for a committee meeting, monthly medal etc. Now that that’s been cancelled and there are no vacant spots at Warra – the book is full. Dammit !!!!

Still watching Breaking Bad. Season 2 done and dusted.
Only 3 more seasons to go. It’s getting to be a bit monotonous, just more of the same.

    I have seen the future!
During the past 5 days of lockdown I have been housebound and bored shitless. Yes, I know that Melbournians had months of that last year and I’ve only had less than a week so far. But I’m already an old fart and, eventually, I’ll no longer be able to play golf. If I’m too incompetent to play golf, I’ll probably be too incompetent to drive anywhere either. There probably won’t be any nursing home beds available so ill just rot away at home watching tv. How depressing !!!
The only saving grace is that one, and only one, of the golf club members is 98 and still playing. Whilst I optimistically suggest that I’d still have another 25 odd years of golf, the reality is probably much less.
I doubt that a nursing home would let have a bottle of shiraz every day, to speed me on my way, but it’s now after 5:00 pm so I’d better start now while I can.

Being optimistic I booked at tee time for Friday. Unless tomorrow’s Covid new numbers are in the 30-50’s ( looking exponential) , then they should lift the lock down, especially in rural Victoria.

They’ve forecast rain for Friday but Saturday is expected to be good.
Then again you might get our Saturday weather on Friday.

Our state govt like to be in control of the masses, so lifting the lockdown is unlikely.

Well I didn’t play during the last bit of fine weather we will see for months, thanks to Dan’s lock down.

What a coincidence, neither did I.
I’m starting to lose track of what day it is.
