Hack2489ParticipantWaking with a dusty haze today, I’m reflecting on my goals for yesterday vs outcome.
Goals were:
– to only think about, concentrate on, the shot at hand and play each shot in a mindfulness type state.
– aim for bogey golf measured off course par.
– not let outcome or result affect my enjoyment.
Overall, I achieved those goals. I had a minor brain fade on the 4th when I chipped into the bunker (yep, I was thinking don’t hit into the bunker) and then somehow managed to send the bunker shot clean out over the green (I was thinking don’t chunk it). After those 2 back to back errors I caught myself and quickly regrouped, dropping the chip out of the long rough to an easy one putt from the flag.
From there on it was steady sailing.
The mental approach of playing par 4 as a par 5, so for me, that was thinking be on for 3 middle of the green and two putt, seemed to remove the ‘need’ to smash driver which in turn resulted in good drives and a chance at GIR despite the back tees.
Game improvement plan is on track. I’m now comfortable in my knowledge that I should be able to shoot a ‘played to’ of 9 even with my lower back issues.
And, the other thing was not thinking about or adding up my score until the round was over … Which I did!
Score started to creep into my head a few times, and looking back, it’s around those times I lost focus on the shot at hand… Thinking more about the score for that hole though, rather than the round…
I did think coming in on 15, 16 about the likely score but had NFI and stopped myself adding it up or looking…
One other thing I was testing was the mental aspects in my PSR. of thinking about the shot, shot shape and visualisation of the shot in the air. When I did it clearly, I had good shots, like really good shots. On reflection I did it more so on tee shots. Need to bring that into my game more.
By the time you realise this part of my signature doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
Success is the ability to go from one failure to the next without any loss of enthusiasm.
Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.
Meditation makes doing nothing quite respectable.
Hack2489ParticipantTrackman system has SO many numbers, and variables too. I’m surprised the studio doesn’t have a guide or intro lesson for new users etc.
Did you set up each club? What about ball in use? I know from the lessons and fitting I had using one, there was always a process of setting up the club in use and standardisation for ball in use, etc.
Do you get the data from your session?

Hack2489ParticipantHack 15.9/14.5/14.0
After today I’m at 14.8.
Shooting a differential of 13.1 has convinced me I should aim for single figures.
Might take a few years to get the “official’ GA given the slow rate of competition rounds I tend to play.
That arise. I’m happy with the progress.
More importantly, the lower back has seemed to hold up ok.

Hack2489ParticipantStood over every Drive today feeling like I had NFI….
But.
Somehow the mental game held up to let me shoot a 90 ots from the Blue Tees (slope 138, SR 74) at the home track today in what is known as the “Blue Marker Challenge” …
GA of 15.9 gave me a daily of 20. So, net 70 for a ‘played to’ of 13.1.
New GA of 14.8
Quite frankly I’m rather happy about the result today.
There was no run on the fairways due to recent rain.
There’s never an easy pin placement on these “challenge” days.
Greens were slower than I expected. Took a few holes to get the feel.
Need to analyse the round tomorrow because the post round beers are taking a toll on me ATM.

Hack2489ParticipantJust to interrupt OB talking to himself in here, thought I’d post the outcome from the Blue Marker challenge today…
A dozen Pro V golf balls are on their way to mwah… Not only did I break my handicap, but I shot a net 70.
DSR of 74 and slope 138. No PCC adjustment.
Gives me a ‘played to’, or as it’s now known, the ‘differential’ of … 13.1

Hack2489ParticipantThe winding path of work n life has lead my from cleaning toilets and mowing lawns to trainee bean counter, qualified bean counter, bean counter in business, partner in bean counter firm, bean counter in different businesses, management consultant, then business consultant for SME, and now my current gig as a business and financial strategist.
I’ve also gone from surfing ever morning, to twice a day or more, to mornings only before work, to once mid week and weekends, to hardly ever, to every day, to my current set up of daily if conditions and my lower back allows.
Golf has gone from NFI, to active improvement with lessons and practice, to barely any idea, to twice weekly competition rounds and still barely NFI, to basically nothing for years other than an odd social game, to new clubs, lessons, practice and fleeting hints of lossing the NFI tag.

Hack2489ParticipantHack 15.2/14.5/14.0
So, anyway, somehow, the numpties managing the change to the WHS have recalculate my GA of 15.2 pre WHS to 15.9 … Yeah, the 0.93 adjustment hasn’t exactly worked correctly.
My flagged round is a 16.4 ‘differential”
I only have 5 rounds in my “account’
So tomorrow will be my 6th, which according to the new WHS means two rounds will be averaged and gets a -1.0 adjustment.
So, who knows what it’s going to look like after the blue marker tomorrow.
Goal is to break 90 ots which by my calc would give me a ‘differential’ of around 13 (Slope 138, par 72, scratch rated 74)
With a wet track and the usual Seabreeze I suspect the PCC will be +2 tomorrow too..
Now, if only a decent swing turns up tomorrow and I manage to shoot a decent score!

Hack2489ParticipantTooth recovery and rain dodging provided opportunity for a practice session late yesterday. 👍
Wedges to targets were ok ish. Bit rusty as expected but generally felt ok. Few longer irons showed ball striking was ok. Driver was a bit erratic. 🤷♂️
Walked 2 – 7, and the erratic drive bit me big time. Went bogey, par then quad, double, par, double to be 9 over for the 6 holes. 😲
Hitting 3 off the tee on the par 5 4th (after first went through the netting and onto a garden shed in the neighbourhood), I found it under a tree, behind the tree, so tapped out sideways for the 4th, then put my 3W wet. Dropped for 6th and put the 7th with 7i middle fairway, where a wedge put it for 8 to a one putt distance and putt for 9… 🤔
On 5th, a weird pulled hooky type drive (over correction from 4th) went wet, so hit 3 off tee with commitment and middle of fairway. 7i into middle of green, 4th, to leave a two putt double.
On 7th, I clipped top of tree off tree, and had to punch out, leaving about 170, which came up short after I didn’t allow for breeze. Sitting near green for 3, my chip up left me a chance for bogey, but two putt double ended the session.
Blue Marker Friday and I’m not confident with Driver or 3W… Course is wet under foot, with no roll at all. Good for knowing carry distance but not so for scoring well when it already plans long off the blue markers. 🙄
Need a couple more practice sessions!
