By the time you realise this part of my signature doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
Success is the ability to go from one failure to the next without any loss of enthusiasm.
Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.
Meditation makes doing nothing quite respectable.

Hack2489ParticipantThe best part of all of this is that I understand none of it
Luckily you don’t have time to get lost in the detail since you have all that running to do.

Hack2489ParticipantWelcome back Frank
Good to be back…….can I also say that the new Navigator got its first run. It was good not pushing a buggy for a change and I’m sure if I was pushing my old buggy I would have pulled up sorer than I did. Managed to only run over myself once. 😉
Ah, yes, but did it, the new buggy, get a roll in the sand? Upright, dry or otherwise?

I thought I did well……missed all the dams and bunkers. 😉😊

Hack2489Participanthe biggest has been my full swing and Monte Scheinblum’s No Turn Cast training program.
I looked into the Monte ‘no cast drill’ and noticed it very similar to (same as?) the Mike Malaska ‘L to L’ concept. I’ve been using a lot of Malsaka info to change my swing, particularly the use of the hips, but also the “L to L” and the ‘hockey stick grip’ drill.

Guess you won’t be playing off 16 again next time?

Hack2489ParticipantExcellent score – congrats on achieving your handicap goal
Thanks.
I’m confident I will shoot a sub PB round again very soon, and in turn, in the next 12 months (assuming I play a. few more comp rounds) will have an official ‘single figure handicap.
I might need to reset the goal posts them to shoot a par round!

Hack2489ParticipantHack 14.8 / 14.5 / 14.0
Hmm, let’s see yep, tick, done.
Now at 13.9 after today’s played to of 12.2.
Better reset the goals, hey?
Let’s see.
13.9 / 12 / 9
Achievable?
I’m sure someone who hasn’t consumed too many post round celebratory drinks can updated this into the list at some stage. TIA.

Hack2489ParticipantAm now off 13.9 after posting a played to of 12.2 in the ProAM today.
Playing off 21 for the day, I shot 90 OTS for 39 Stableford points.
Highlights included:
Started with 2 solid pars. Both FIR and GIR.
Sand shot on the par 5 11th to inches, for a tap in Par.
An 8i into 10 from 135m out to within 2m of the pin.
3w second into the par 5 4th to be 5m off the green.
Couple of good 56* wedges around the greens.
Good consistent Drives.
Overall good mental.focus which did drop off and cost me shots, but regrouped and scored well.
Some good course management tips from our professional who was an absolute champ. Good bloke. Good company. Honest and very down to earth. Was a pleasure to play with Deyen today.
Oh yeah, the other company from on here. Thanks for making the trip down Toph, and well played.

Hack2489ParticipantI’ll just preface this by saying our very own Toph should be trundling along here soon, and deservedly so given the course we played today…
Yes, it was ProAM day off the tips on the course set up for professionals. As posted, the tips play scratch 74 (par 72) with slope of 148.
That said, my played to of 12.2 has my GA now at 13.9.
For those mathematical minded, that was equal to 90 OTS, so a raw score differential of 16.
Playing off 21 for the day, I had 39 Stableford points.
Over to you Toph …

Hack2489ParticipantSounds like you’ve been investing time and $$$ into your swing. What’s that old saying, doing same thing expecting different results?
Negative or doubt type thoughts cost me majorly, it’s one thing I’m really working on ATM and seems to be working. If you’ve got any hint of right side trouble and doubt that’ll cost for sure … Rotella’s advice is play with what you’ve got on the day, but always have a shot to play good, NOT to avoid trouble. That’s the big thing for me, as I tend to have too much doubt or negative thoughts about past misses etc.
I’m now also using one of his other ideas for stat tracking. Focus on good not bad. Record FIR, GIR putts under 2 but not the misses and use a post shot routine to absorb the feeling of a good strike / shot. So build confidence rather than focus on errors. Early days for me.

Hack2489ParticipantHave a great time Hack
Those are some serious ratings – right up with the hardest in the country
Yes indeed, it’s a good track and now has the official rating to hold up its status as a torture test.
15+ years ago I was a member at Pelican Waters, which was pre the slope rating days, so handicap was ‘course based’. I rarely broke 100 off the tips there, and mostly mid to high 90’s at best off the usual blue comp tees. Handicap was 27 at the time.
Pelican is scratch rated 73 (par 72), slope 140 for the tips (black tees) so it’s always been a “comparison” in my assessment of whether I’m playing better now than years ago.
My current GA of 15.6 would give me 19 off the tips, so better than the 27 I held up there all those years ago.
To compare, the 27 slope adjusted, so using the black tees 140, that would be 21.8
15.6 gives me 21 off the tips at OSCC
Since my comp rounds are only ever off the tips at OSCC for the ‘blue marker challenge’ and ProAM, the re-rating, if applied retrospectively, would see my GA drop to 14.3
At least I have a metric to assess my improvement since my return to golf in 2017.
My immediate goal is to break my BP of 86 OTS. If I can shoot an 85, with scratch at 74, the 11 over once slope adjusted would give me a ‘played to’ of 8.4
I’ll be bloody ecstatic when that happens.
Having revisited Bob Rotella’s ‘the golfers mind’ recently, I know I have the swing, game and mental ability to do it.
My goal for the ProAM is to play each shot with a committed swing without doubts or other thoughts. Play it shot by shot, making good decisions and using both pre and post shot routines.
Off for some reconnaissance this afternoon to check the markings for pin placements tomorrow and to remind myself of past good shots on various holes (Rotella concept). No doubt the flags will be in tough spots for tomorrow given the pro field in action.

Hack2489ParticipantPlayed to 9.8
Handicap in to 8.8
Getting there now and space still to improve it – highest flag is now a 12.0
8.8 must feel good Weeti?
So, it does beg the question, what’s changed? What are you doing different? It wasn’t long ago I recall reading about your repeated poo rounds.

Hack2489ParticipantHope so Della – would like to put some more good rounds together
But 1 good round means no counting chickens
Think positive Weeti.
I AM going to put more good rounds together!
How about you add another ‘tracking statistic’ to your list? A ‘mental focus’ metric? For example, each hole, each shot, record how you were thinking… Focused on what, and or if errors were due to any doubt / non committed to a shot.
