Hack2489ParticipantIs there any way to get a ‘new content’ or even a ‘recent discussions’ summary on the main Forum index page?
Going into every sub forum to look for ‘new posts’ is a PITA.
I see the ‘wordpress’ dashboard has it sort of, but that’s a PITA to get into too.
Im sure there must be though web designers are off till New Year. SIU till then;)
Unfortunately Mike I think that timeline might be enough to lose the little momentum there is…
It’s holiday season so people have time to browse forums. Once lost, hard to get back.
The old ISG ‘new content’ summary was the go to for me and I suspect a lot of the others. I use similar on other forms. Some call it latest activity, others recent discussions. Whatever it is called it needs to stand out like dogs balls on the main Forum index page.
I’m also thinking the ‘state based’ sub forums are spreading the content too far. Too many areas ATM to go into to read stuff. Would work if there is a new posts type summary though.
Just my $0.02 while I wait for the roast to cook and the batteries for the RC car to recharge!

Hack2489ParticipantI could probably arrange an equipment review regular forum, not by me, by a group of pros at a local golf complex. Do you think that might be of interest? I know that i trawl through other sites regularly just out of curiosity. Maybe others feel the same way.
Agreed.
Even better if the reviews include data off trackman etc. I prefer to see the numbers linked with the ‘for me feel’ type comments. Things like doin and distance for example so there is objective data to compare clubs.
Golf ball reviews too would be good, but again with data.

Hack2489ParticipantOf course I’m going to start!
I am the most popular kid in the street.
Why?
Because Santa got me a RADIO CONTROLLED CAR!
It flies.
Does AWESOME burnouts, donuts, fish tails and I’ve even got a bit of drift action happening already.
It won’t last a week the way I drive it. I’ve hit trees, letterbox x3, car wheels, boat trailer (yes, the trailer not the wheel as it launched as it rolled) and a couple of ankles. I have avoided the drain in the gutter so far though; only just.
Yes.
Oh, yeah, I also got a new shagbag.
Waiting for the battery to recharge is a PITA.

Hack2489ParticipantBroke a 1k post mark and over a 100 subscribers!
Thanks everyone. Slow and steady
Some of you must have a lot of unused alternate personality accounts. Why aren’t all the users contributing? Medication working post sign up?
Very typical to have way more lurkers than contributors. It’s why it’s tough to get forums off the ground at the start.
Hmmm,.ok now op to 113 registered but the same dozen or so posting.
Seems like the trip thread has more people contributing than any other. Although, most seem to have just registered interest with one post.
Can the admins / mods send bulk direct messages? Perhaps a site wide Christmas message or other request for engagement might bring more regular contributions.
Hmmm.

Hack2489ParticipantOk, so I’m getting a bit lost now.
What goes in “the Deck” area vs what goes in the “community business” area?
Is the deck more for drunken debauchery?
Community business for sensible and rational topics?
How ‘pc’ is the deck? What’s the line to stay behind? Is midget porn going too far?

Hack2489ParticipantChristmas Day starts today, Christmas Eve around the Hack
Householdneighbourhood…Today is chores day like mow lawns, clean outdoor furniture, wash down decks, etc Get supplies, like beer and seafood, gas bottle, etc.
Everyone near me is doing the same.
By mid afternoon FIL arrives. It’s fluff around chores while having a few beers, oysters, prawns, etc. We wander around visiting the neighbours and helping with and last minute maintenance issues at various houses as and when needed. All while having a beer or three.
Mates drop around and have a beer or two, and then after dark it’s the Dads army into full gear helping out together whatever wherever for those younger kids still in aw of Santa. There’ll be bikes and swings, jungle gyms, cubby houses, trampolines etc. The number is getting less as our kids grow up, but this year a few new young families are in the nearby streets so we’re lined up to help.
Tomorrow is early surf (no longer any excited young kids waiting for Santa in the Hack household), coffee and presents. Then traditional fried eggs and ham for breakfast mid morning.
Mrs Hack gets a WASJIG puzzle every year and starts it after breakfast. FIL and daughter periodically help. I avoid it like the plague.
The caddie will get some electronic thing that requires my attention for set up. That will take a couple of beers.
Mrs Hack does a roast on the BBQ. I do seafood, calamari, scallops, prawns, etc. while the roast cooks. Roast is eaten mid to late afternoon.
We finish after dark, stuffed, and ready for rest but the pavlova beckons and we stuff ourselves some more.
Then.
Boxing Day is up early for a surf before heading to SIL for the day. More prawns n oysters etc while roast cooks. FIL and I watch start of Sydney to Hobart then switch over to the cricket. We use games room at SIL house to play billiards, drink beers, eat prawns etc until roast is ready late afternoon. I usually have a sleep mid afternoon.
My wife drives home as I’ve usually had a dozen or so beers.
Then I look at my fat bloated guts the next morning and decide I don’t need to eat for a week.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Hope it’s a safe and fun one for you and your loved ones.

Hack2489ParticipantThe client Christmas party golf day was rather interesting. Shambles round so got to test a few things with no scorecard consequences.
I decided to try swinging the driver using more relaxed wrists and less effort from the lower half and found it worked a treat. See below, attached, the GPS details of one such gem.
I found my iron striking to still be inconsistent. Some left which were pull draws and some right which were block fades. I returned to a lower body pivot power swing and found direction good, but strike poor. I stuck with it and shortened my backswng and smacked a couple. I really MUST learn to take what feels like a half to 3/4 backswing.
I managed 3x NTPs. One with 7i at 135m into a breeze and I dropped it 3.5m long and a metre right. Pitch mark was 5cm from the ball. Other 2 were 6i and both about 5m from the pin.
I stupidly overswung on the long drive hole and yanked it left. Reloaded and snotted one about 240m and an easy 20m past the marker. Very disappointed not to get that.
Back held up ok. Had anti inflammatory cream on the area and a couple of Panadol in me though. Woke up ok this morning.

Hack2489ParticipantThat’s not good to hear
It’s a little hard to say how long we will stay after because it’s a late start at 12 and we will have a 90+ minute trip home. Given I expect that the round will be slow being stroke and back markers we may leave straight after.
It’s a car pool so not in my control!
I’ll see what the guys are thinking – would be good to catch up even if it’s briefly. How far away are you from OS?
I’m 20 mins North. I’ll see what the family plans are, as I can shoot down in the middle of the day and catch up pre-round.
Also, FYI, they have a ‘practice’ range in use for these days now. It’s pretty cheap, like $3 for a small bucket of balls. It operates up the top between the first and 18th. Flat grass tee area is between the putting green and the chipping green. It’s purely for ‘warm up’ as distance is impacted by the balls in use and the downhill range layout.
Interesting timing, but I believe there are quite a few grumbles making their way to the club regarding the condition of the greens. This has just arrived via e-mail to members today:
Course Superintendent’s Report to Golf Members
2019 proved to be a year of extremes for maintaining turf.
Early warning signs for a dry hot year were evident from January 2019 with no rain for the month to start the year and no significant rainfall recorded until mid-March. The negative effects on turf health had to be managed during this extended dry period and fortunately the turf recovered with good Autumn rain. During this period our dams were replenished and the course restored in excellent condition.
The golf course was at its peak performance for our premier events during the July – August Championship period and pro-am circuit. Once again, our golf course gritted its teeth and challenged both the membership, professionals, and future professionals around our championship layout.
Following these premier events, the onset of an even more extreme dry period commenced. The golf course only received 80mm of rain in 5 months to the start of December. This put year to date rainfall to the beginning of December to over 400mm below the annual average for the Byron Region. Once again, the turf health began to deteriorate and we were required to manage associated issues. Across the property, the turf began to lose colour and vigour and efforts to combat this were seen to have little effect in restoring turf health.
During these attempts, an underlying problem presented itself as applied nutrition via fertiliser and soil conditioners gained no beneficial results. It is known that Ph and salt lock up nutrients in soil. Historically Ph at OSCC is always around Neutral with salt being our problem. We have tested our irrigation catchment and have seen some alarming results. Salt (Na) has been tested at 2600ppm with ideal levels for optimal growing at less than 400ppm. Follow up testing has revealed salt elevation of up to 4000ppm.
Based on these results, we have implemented a customised maintenance program to offset salt levels and manage chloride in our irrigation water. I am please to report that we currently see consistent (albeit slow) improvement across the property. This customised program will remain in place until dams are replenished and salt levels are reduced to acceptable levels. It’s worth noting that at OSCC salt levels average around 700ppm when dams are full.
The patience of our membership has been greatly appreciated while we continue to do everything in our power to combat these unprecedented conditions and continue to make improvements to our unique and wonderful facility.
2019 has been a year of consolidation regarding capital works. An emphasis on refining the fairways that have been transitioned to sports turf such as the recent 16th hole continues to prove that this turf variety has the ability to combat the dry and elevated salt levels on our property in extreme conditions by maintaining grass cover with only the loss of some colour, and a quick recovery from turf stress.
During the year another 1500m of irrigation main line has been installed. This replaces aging AC pipes (46 years) that have been an ongoing burden with irrigation breaks and system down time. With this work now complete, only holes 3,4,5 and 6 remain to complete the full course mainline replacement.
New initiatives on the property have been implemented in 2019 to encourage sustainability on the golf course. These include the investment in recycling bins, general waste bins, plus their enclosures. Processing of green waste via the large plant Tub Grinder giving the course 12 months’ worth of mulch to care for boundaries and no mow areas. We’re also continuing to establish native plants along the land slump on Strike-a-Like creek following a NSW Fisheries habitat grant. Sustainable initiatives will be continued to be pursued in 2020.
On behalf of all the green staff, we aim to deliver a consistently well-presented golf course for 2020 and please be assured that it is our goal to restore the greens to the firm pure surfaces we are accustomed to. My team and I appreciate the support of the membership through out the challenging year that was 2019.

The Commish had suggested a space similar to The Lounge and a few offered up a name.
We now have The Deck
I think Weets might have meant why the ‘commish’ needs to “commission’.
