Can break 80Participantpersonally of the golf courses i’ve played, cape shanck at mornington peninsula stands out as one with monstrous and fiendish greens. you wouldn’t want to be playing a greenkeeper’s revenge on that course.
The par 4 6th (sticks in my mind) as a drivable par 4 for longish hitters. I have driven it and 4 putted it (this was when my putting was actually half decent).according to Google Earth pro the 6th at CS measures 73m from front to back and 15 m wide. 4 tiers.
you did well to only have 4 putts. it really depends on the hole location1 user liked this post.

Course Re-Opening
In recent correspondence Daniel Andrews has indicated that he may lift the ban on Golf after the May 11 review. In light of this the club has decided to arrange timesheets for this.
If golf restrictions are not lifted on 11 May, then Members who have booked to play from May 12 will be informed by email of the cancellation of their booking. All members must only proceed to pro-shop/tee or putting green 10 minutes prior to tee-time, no congregation in car park or any other areas of course allowed before or after round.
Please note that all restrictions and rules will be reviewed constantly and may change without due notice.

Golf Australia recommendations which will probably apply to all clubs are for 1 tee start, groups of 2 players, wait in car until 10 minutes before tee off time, social golf only interesting they say (stfd comp is counted as social), no monthly medals.no score cards.means half normal field size so members will missing out on a game as time sheet will likely book out in 10 minutes of opening.
groups pf 2 should be able to get round in under 3hrs so might have some fast rounds.certainly going to be interesting golf until around October or November

Can break 80ParticipantI played at Barnbougle last year and was surprised to find that they had 4 tee positions that were allocated to you on the basis of handicap. The lower your handicap, the further back you tee off from. As a 20 + handicapper then I thought it was a good idea until I found that now my drives were now in putting me in range of the fairway bunkers. I had a good game and enjoyed the experience, thinking that this must be what it feels to be a good golfer who can hit 250 m plus drives and then hit high lofted clubs into greens.
Most clubs I play at have Mens, Ladies and green fee paying golfer tees. I was talking with Bogey Golfer last week and he mentioned that his club is going to trial the tee positions according to handicap. I wondered what the pros and cons would be.
Just to see what it was like laying off the front ( red) tees at our club I played a practice game today using the red tees. What I found was on some holes it didn’t make a lot of difference, but on others there were advantages. The dog leg holes where I could not hit over the bend reliably, I had to use shorter clubs than usual to get to the bend. The straighter holes I ended up hitting to the green with higher lofted clubs and reduced my score.
One downside I thought of is that the pace of play might be adversely affected, while players mover out of the way of the back markers while they drive, then move into position for their turn. It might also skew results in favour of higher handicap players for a while, as they can score better being in range with scoring clubs a little sooner. Their handicap would drop fairly quickly and then they would be relegated to the next tee position ( towards the rear).
The upside I think would be to increase the enjoyment of the game by those players who have either lost distance as they aged, or never had it in the first place. Also leaners might be more encouraged to join in competitions earlier, if they saw a handicap system helping them on the course, as well as in the scoring system.
What do you think?

Gender-neutral tees are the go and its why we have a slope rating system in place (theoretically).
Let people play (male/female) from whichever tee and adjust handicap accordingly. Play the tee for your handicap level and enjoy the round.
Suggestion
Given you are in favour of this approach why not adopt this multi tee approach to the Nationals competition this year A.
great opportunity to bring some innovation into the event, rather than everyone getting beaten up with long water carries.
the courses we are playing have multi tees in place so lets use themhere’s a suggestion All play of mid tees (white) for round 1, then allocate tees for Sunday based on Saturday scores.
eg 36 points and above move back to blue tees,
30 to 36 stay off mid tees.
less than 30 play one tee forward red.
really even out the competition and make the game much more enjoyable.1 user liked this post.

Can break 80ParticipantPerhaps they should grade the size of heads according to skill level.
Start off with larger oversize heads when beginning or until game reaches a determined level,, then at each grade / skill level the head becomes small.
ie 500 CC for high handicap
400 for mid
300 cc for good players
250 cc for pro’s
ie
make the driver heads for pro’s and elite players smaller, like the old persimmon heads.
This would mean hitting right in middle or ball would not fly.1 user liked this post.

Can break 80ParticipantHaving spent the best part of the entire week watching Masters replays…FFS..1996…stop…anyway…watching Scotty’s 2013 win for the umpteenth time, I just want to say again what a magnificent human being Angel Cabrera is. The manner in which he congratulated Scott and seemed genuinely happy for him was above and beyond. The thumbs up on the approach shot to the 10th in the playoff was just the early sign. The embrace and the walk off together at the end said it all.
Angel…you’re a farken legend.

Can break 80ParticipantI wonder if the scratch ratings are robust enough to support allowing the field to choose their tee in a comp
I suspect that people who were really keen for an advantage would find a tee (I’m guessing the shortest available) to maximise their scoring chances
The scratch ratings are set for each tee and so is slope so from each tee you will have a different daily handicap, thus allowing players to play at tee for their skill level and hence all scores should count the same.
The WHS has been set up on this basis.

Can break 80ParticipantIt seems that indoor sporting facilities will be closed.
That allows golf courses to continue to allow play even if the clubhouse is closed. If pro shop stays open and sells food and drink, and we play in 3.s courses could / should be allowed to stay open.
smaller clubs must stay open or they will go to wall as green fee players is the main source of revenue for lots of clubs like yours and mine.
Lets wait and see what directive Golf Australia give to clubs.might take my grandson fishing in the bay or in the country streams and rivers for next few months, that will certainly be social distancing, but who knows even fishing might be banned if we cannot breath without contracting the virus.

Can break 80ParticipantThe USGA has a theory on this as they are trying to encourage more golfers to play off tee that are in line with ability.
and as ones game progresses then move back as described at Barnbougle.
Golf Australia are not yet promoting this idea although a number of clubs I have visited are now playing multiple tee competitions on same dayUSGA use following method to determine the length of course one should play based on how far you hit ball with driver.
They say average driver length x 28 is the meters course.should play and what ever colour tee that relates to.
for older golfers who hit 175m = course length =4900
So for the 190m bunters = 5320m
220m = 6160m
The new WHS allows golfers to be handicapped from multiple tees
