Can break 80ParticipantGood day today playing off 15 at Rossdale had 42 points
did you win the comp?
Can break 80ParticipantStableford at Green Acres yesterday. (Never played there) A tight tree lined course that needs accuracy off the tee. A low course rating so my GL 9.6 translated to playing off 9 for the day.
Front 9 – 20 points ( 2 over 38 OTS)
Back 9 – 18 points ( 5 over 40 OTS)38 points got me a 3rd in A grade and a NTP. Drove pretty well with about 12 FIR and 10 GIR.
An enjoyable course that I would like to play again.
good score Francie but only 3rd again, seem like its another award for you TBPNTHWAPGD
(The best player never to have won a police golf day)

good effort Mick in Club championships.
the middle round was good. what was your target score going in.
what was winning scores for C grade gross and net.Its good to play stroke rounds because every shot counts, and no such thing as a wipe which helps test game.
sometimes its difficult to change from stableford mode to stroke round mode..

Can break 80ParticipantA lovely sunny Sunday afternoon game at Langy with a client, and his mate. we had a nice business meeting on way round.
lots of wind blowing to make course play just that little bit longer even off white tees.happy with my game today, hit lots of quality punch shots into greens and 5 punch drivers into wind. just chipped the ball around the course .
love the punchy chippy shot, ball goes low under tree line and with good power and control in cross winds
showed my client how to hit that shot and his game improved as he wasn’t fighting wind anymore with high ball flight off tee..Langy was in terrific condition, even after heavy showers this morning. The greens were not usual terrifying speed today, and left myself a lot of 1 to 2 m putts, good thing is I made almost every one of them, a change from Warra, where I got a bit jabby in stroke. Did a session on putting mat with blast motion device after Warra game and seems to have smoothed my stroke out a bit.
didn’t keep score, focus was on hitting shots and playing the game plan. a fun day, and we had a great game.
Both guests enjoyed the course and will come back again before Christmas.
Can break 80Participant“I have been trying to work on a consistent approach to playing hole one. I am trying to hit my 4W off the tee, leaving about 150 m approach to the green. If I use Driver I have been going through the fairway and having an uncertain lie for shot 2. I have used the 4Hybrid ( my 150 m) club, but the last two times I have run through and left myself short sided. At least I am getting better with LW shots onto downhill sloping greens.”
answer
As the hole rates 6, it is a reasonably difficult one to begin with, so just play for a bogey to start your round with to give you confidence.
hit 4w off tee, then according to web site hitting just short is better then going over, so if 150m to go, hit 125m or 130m, giving you a gentle chip on and 2 putt for an easy 5 for 2.
you dont want to start with a double.1 user liked this post.
Can break 80Participant41 points really well done. did you GA come down.
Can break 80ParticipantMy last 7 rounds in GL were all in the 20s (points). Until today.
The usual stab at Warra.
Started with two 6s (most holes are par 4), then two 5s, then two 4s, two 5s (par3 & par5), two more 4s, then the pattern broke.
18 out, 22 back for 40 points. That’s been a long time coming. All up, three doubles, seven bogeys, eight pars.I would like to think that I’ve ‘cracked it’ for consistent drives, but I just know that Saturday will be back to normal.
Thursdays are usually a small field (57 today), but it looks like I’m in the money.
Well done OB a good score from you today at Warra. Looks like you won the comp.
warra was in great condition with nice grass cover on fairways and fast greens.
Dancer (host member) had 30 points with 3 outs. trouble in sand, but hit lots of good shots
Fehan has 22 (off 4) lots of tee shots in trees.I managed 29 points = 17 front 9 including at tap i n3 on 4th hole (3for 4) with an out on 9th after I tried to hit a hero shot over trees.
played bogey golf all back 9 until 17th when i took 4 to get down from off back edge for a great 7. 12 points back.broke 90 and game appears to be on mend but putting needs some work after 4×3 putts

Can break 80ParticipantWe’ve had this discussion before, CB.
Consistency would improve my average scores considerably. I can stuff up all types of shots, and manage to do that too often.so what are you doing to improve your consistency to drop 3 to 5 shots off score..
Can break 80ParticipantI’ve finally edged my ‘cap out to 18.0
That’s in line with the original estimates considering the goal posts were moved by 2 when GA included a ‘rating – par’ adjustment into the equation.Which makes no difference at all to your played to score.
What would you be out to if you weren’t on the anchor adjustment that kicks in after you’re 3+?
19.1
I hit my 13.9 low point in March. But because of no golf, it was still hanging around on 23 May. So I cannot get beyond 18.9 until after May next year. In the meantime I’m still playing crap.
I’ve been capped since mid June.
My average score over the last 20 is 28.75. I’ve had one 36 points, one 35 points and seven others that made it to 30 points. But at least only one below 20. Do you need any more evidence of crap golf?It not showing crap golf at all, rather its showing exactly the opposite, its showing very consistent golf.
last 10 rounds this month =94.6 +/- 4.
your last 20 rounds average 94.2 +/- 4Q.1) what target score would satisfy you as NOT Crap. ?
2) what areas of your game needs to improve to reach this target score, it is either wasting shots
a) from the tee to 100m or
b) shots inside 100m.3) practice that area to improve

Can break 80.
Can break 80ParticipantSomeone asked me recently about the index rating of the par 4’s that I have trouble reaching in 2 shots.
I can reach them in two shots occasionally when I get the tee shot long enough and in ideal positions and then hit the second shot crisply on target (not that often). Then, of course, there is the wind factor! SW Victoria is windy, only the direction changes.Hole #1 is a dogleg left shape 335m. ( rating index 6) Long hitters can cut the corner. I am not confident with that approach, so I aim it down the centre of the fairway hoping for a draw shape. If I get more than 180 m it ends up in the right light rough. I occasionally use my 4 wood off the tee when there is a bit of roll. The next shot of 150-160 m to the front of the green. The shape of the fairway funnels the ball left to right ( towards the sea) so it is better to land just short left and let it roll on. My usual score on #1 is bogey/ occasionally a par if I get the draw shot off the tee
Hole #2 is a 340 m dogleg right. ( rating 2 index) . Here you need to end up left side to get a clear shot at the green with shot two. A draw shot will often roll into the trees on the left, so I usually try for a fade. When it works it leaves me with a 160-150 m shot to the green. There is a green side bunker on the right, but left side is safe. I usually play my 3Hybrid (Cobra SL F9). A good shot will be pin high, hopefully leaving a short chip onto the green.
Hole #10 is a 337 m ( rated index 9) with a slight bend to the right. Ideally a tee shot to the left side is ideal. Wind is often a issue on this hole as it faces West. Our dominant wind is a westerly at 38 degrees South we are on the edge of the roaring 40’s.
It adds about 2 clubs to the shot distance. With a good draw shape tee shot and a 4W 170m I can get on this green occasionally.Hole #12 is rated at #1index ( 372 m) but I don’t find it all that hard. A good shot off the tee to the left side ( avoid the trees on the right/ full of sweet pittosporum jungle) I can reach the green in 2 shots with a good strike. 200 drive/172 4 W, but often it is a chip on for shot 3.
Hole #15 is a 359 m dog leg left ( index 5) . I can get on the green in 2 shots as long as a get a tight draw off the tee. Any fade and I am out of range for shot 2.
Hole #17 is a dog leg left ( index 7) 343m with a water hazard on the apex of the dog leg ( inside / left) . My tee shot can reach that water , so a tight draw aimed at the corner is risky. I usually try to get to the mid fairway section to get a clear shot at the green. Most time it is 160m m >. I can it the green sometimes, but it is usually laterally 10-20 m wide of the pin.
In summary, the par 4 dog leg holes are harder for me, especially when I send the ball wide of the ideal path. It makes the second shot that much longer, or on some holes it makes a controlled fade at the green an essential shot when the tee shot goes too far right ( dog leg right shape hole)
Tomorrow I am playing with my son-in-law again at 8 a.m. in the comp. It will be a hot day, so hopefully we will not wilt. Over 25 is a heat wave in Portland.
Wow
by comparison my course has par 4’s of
365m, 401m 299m 375m, 403m, 375m 365m 375m 385m, 299m 345m 300m
so yes some out of reach, i just play the long ones as 3 shot holes.1 user liked this post.

Can break 80ParticipantIt really was scary, how many golfers caught Covid from being on golf course and touching the flag stick and the rakes.
Interesting…. I can’t recall seeing anything about golfers in NSW or anywhere else for that matter getting Covid from doing anything golf related. I think there may have been a couple that got it from the Clubhouse. Can you direct me to the area that has the stats for this. Would be interesting to do a comparative analysis against other open air sports that were being played but not in a confined bubble.
I was talking cheek in tongue Dave. Of course there are no covid cases from playing golf, its one of the sports least likely to spread.
