Not in lockdown, but I’ve been watching Boardwalk Empire during idle time and when there’s nothing entertaining on free-to-air.
Neighbour gave me season one on disks but I prefer to stream them instead of fiddling with disks.
Only problem is that there are five seasons each of 12 one hour episodes.
Part way through season two. This might take awhile.

Is that because carts are lot allowed on the course.?
If so call me the home of golf is allowing carts, but they have to stay to side of fairways

Today’s Vets game was at Hamilton Parklands scrapes course. It was 1 degree when we left Portland and headed inland after scraping the frost off the windshield. It didn’t really warm up much at all during the match.

There was a field of 41 players who braved the elements. Scoring in general was low. I played with another player at 11 handicap which made it more interesting. Today my tee shots went well in distance and directional control. I used the 4W and 7W ot good effect, but my game within 100 m left me down. The grass around the scrapes was soft and many of my PW chips, failed to run on to the scrape. Eventually I wised up and used 9i and 8i to chip with. For all but two holes I managed to avoid hitting the scrape full lob. It feels quite foreign deliberately choosing a club so that you will be short or long of the target.
The scrapes were very hard with sparse gritty sand covering, Many of them were a low conical shape. If you hit he putts a bit firmly to get past the hole they kept going. I missed a lot of putts today.

my playing partner pipped me with 21 points. I scored 20. Not our finest hours!

Playing sand scrapes is in itself an art form of the game that must be learned. I am no expert at them but have played well in past years on some courses and poorly on others.

The locals will tell you to leave your PW in the boot not needed, and chip with 8 or 7 Iron.

also tell you no need to worry about using high spinning balls like proVs’, which are next to useless on scrapes.

best putter I have found for scrapes is bullseyes, they are brass and give good feel on the stabby stroke needed.
success in putting depends on your ability to scrape a smooth surface for your putts.
anyway I look forward to playing Parklands in August

Sunday was mixed foursomes day at the home of golf..
Course in very dry condition and good lies on fairways and greens back to normal speed.
last year we finished 4th and had a good score of 100, so we wanted to improve this year.

I had practiced in rain at rich River on Wednesday but we were greeted with cloudy conditions and no rain with patches of sun.

My partner had won comp on Wednesday so was in good form and continued to hit the the ball well all day except on one hole , 5th par 3 where she topped it into scrub off tee and we made a 6.
We played well, stuck to our process and game plan and kept ball in play and out of trouble.

All up 2 pars 6 bogeys 9 DB 1 TB for a 97 OTS, so a very good result,
We finished T2 in nett with a net 74.
best gross was 85 best net 68.

    Stab at Warra today.
18 points out with 15 putts and that included one wipe with 2 putts added for that hole.
Back nine score was 17 points with a 3-putt taking putts up to 19.
Grand total was 35 points (best for a long while) and 34 putts (plenty of cIose shaves).
    = 3rd in B grade

Much better playing. you got a low flag and reduced your GA by 0.2

    keep up good form

Thanks CB. No prize for 3rd, just a ball DTL.
No golf today – too wet for carts despite glorious sunshine out there.

Come down to the home of golf during week. carts still allowed.
I am playing Tuesday, and you are more than welcome to join me..

My next game will be at the Parklands course in Hamilton as part of the SW Vets circuit on Monday. From previous years experience, I will wear my thermals and take my buggy with waterproof blinds to stave of hypothermia. It is another scrapes course, so last weeks game should put me in a good position to master the scrapes putting. The Parklands course is holding the VVGA sand scrapes championship in August. I am not sure that I can take the 3 days off to compete.

I have VVGA sand scrape championship at Parklands on my tour schedule.
hence i await your feedback on the course.

    Decisions, decisions!

After I decided to stop using my Ping Valor putter, that I was using in a semi arm lock (side saddle stance) fashion, I saw a Arm Lock putter for sale at just over $100 ( Wilson Staff). so I thought why not give it a try. I had $80 in my pocket with the exchange.

While I was waiting for the Wilson putter to arrive ( snail mail to the sticks = weeks) I went back to using my Gravity Golf Arc Master, but this time using it side saddle stance / weigh on the right foot( trail) and grip down the 42″ shaft using arm lock method with my right hand low. To me it feels like under arm bowling down the line. It is a toe hang putter. If you have been reading my reports my putting has improved a lot using this putter. I have a slight arc in my stroke with it, but it runs pretty well on target. If I miss it isn’t a big miss anymore.

Today the Wilson putter arrived ( face balanced) so I took it out to the practice green and gave it a try. Using the same stance it was pretty good. The sound from the milled face is a metallic ” ponk” and it feels good. Lag putts and short putts, uphill and downhill, side hill all worked well. Immediately after that I used the Arc Master, which felt a little softer sound wise, but performance was similar. The AM will definitely be my scrapes putter.

So how to decide which putter to use? I was thinking that I should use the putters for 5 games each and then see which one I scored better with on average maybe? Advice anyone?

Doesnt hurt to have 2 putters, it tends to keep the gamer honest otherwise it will be resting in car boot instead of being in the bag.

also if feel is different maybe can have one for fast summer greens and another for slow winter greens (or Sand Scrapes)
from your Arcoss data above seems like long putting (resulting in 3 putts is issue, so test putters from 5m & 10m to see which one gets ball closer

Today jumped in the courtesy bus and went over River and played at Rich River in the drizzle and showers. love RR complex great practice facilities and 2 courses. odd showers but still enjoyed the game.
played the Old course which is called WEST, course good and dry. played red tees today for scoring fun as it was wet and not much run.
RR have set up the West course as a shorter resort type course playable for golfers of all standards, whereas EAST is the championship course and beats up resort guests.
they also do different combo’s with the 4 nines so lots of variety, but these are only on weekends and during summer.
    Anniversary tomorrow so no golf

back to home course on Sunday for mixed Foursomes Championship.

    Monday
played Cohuna home of Stuart Appleby – what a lovely country course, sunny sky. lots of Kangaroos on fairways.
tight course amongst river gums so precision hitting needed not smashing, greens good. very enjoyable game.
had 84 (+13 ) playing worst ball game so this was a good sign.

off to Rich River on Wednesday

Lovely sunny day in Swan Hill 15 degrees not a cloud in sky and played Murray Downs today. my home course in has RR here so why not play while there.

Best course on Murray by a long way and well worth the trip

lost 4 vision balls, made 3xpars a couple of 3 putts and close to 90 although didn’t play in comp or keep score, but it was my first hit since pennant final 4 weeks ago so not really worried.
had a great time enjoying the course.

Back in to Victoria tonight, then tomorrow off to play Stuart Appleby’s course at Cohuna..
then on to Rich River both courses on Tuesday and Wednesday. Anniversary on Thursday so no golf then.
my mixed foursomes partner just booked me in for Sundays game at home so will have to make our way back.

Its Winter, ball is not going to fly far and shots will vary a little.

Try to work on your scoring process during these rounds and dont get too stressed about your actual scores or where shots end up, you are only playing practice rounds.

pleased to hear that you are still alive after your Covid shot

PS it was nice an sunny today in Mildura and20 degrees so we did tourist things, but checked out the courses here for next time.

My tour manager has given me the OK to playing Murray Downs on Thursday and Rich River on Sunday

NSW will only give a border crossing pass to local residents. Or will you just claim to have been caravanning along the Murray for a month ?

We have heard differently from 3 golfers from other parts of regional Victoria, I met today in on river boat cruise in Mildura, they jumped back and forward across border playing several different courses in NSW, sure they signed in with Pro shop but without even a questions, where you from or other questions like what is you dog or cats name etc.
I tried to book at Rich River for Sunday but told that with Melbourne restrictions easing the time slots are filling fast at all the Murray courses as more golfers head up North.

I have filled in my permits on line etc with both Vic and NSW Gestapo so will see how we go on Saturday

Lovely golfing weather today in my neck of the woods, although a little foggy to start.
My golf was rather crappy though. Two pars, one wipe, but heaps of 1-pointers.
Only 27 points, 33 putts which included three 3-putts.
The greens were soft and somewhat lumpy, but I could’ve done better.

GA keeps going out now out to 20.7.

But you shouldn’t go out for a few as lucky you have a gap of 6 rounds to bring it down again, as your 8 best played to scores are very consistent.

Just keep playing consistently and just try to bogey every hole.

Did you notice that my new anchor is 16.4 which will come into effect on my next ‘cap calc ?
That will be the limit for some months. If I max out on that my golf is definitely rooted. But it’s far more reasonable than the 13.9 I’ve had to tolerate since early last year until just a few weeks ago.

I do actually go for par on every hole, until that’s no longer an option, then bogey for 2 points, then a last ditch effort to at least get one point on the hole. It’s not unusual to slam a long putt home for that last point.

Stroke is a different kettle of fish. Then it’s all a question of minimising the damage when things have gone wrong.

Noticed that you are on a hat trick for 3 x 99’s in a row. ie 3×27 point rounds.
That is amazingly consistent scoring. I dont know if its been done in the history of ISG / L4G.

come on you can do it its not as difficult as you think. lots of ways to have 99 ie 49 & 50
    or 27 points 18 &9 / 12 & 15 /17 &10

good luck at achieving the 99 /27 milestone tomorrow or Saturday.

    Don’t forget personal PAR.

Play personal par which for Old Bogey is Bogey golf
