Melbourne to host 2016 World Cup of Golf and 2019 Presidents Cup

Australia has been named as host for the 2016 World Cup and the 2019 Presidents Cup golf tournaments with both events set for Victoria.

It will be the third time the Presidents Cup has been played in Melbourne after Royal Melbourne hosted the 1998 and 2011 versions of the biennial team event pitting the Internationals against the USA.

The Internationals first and so far only win in the event came in 1998.

The World Cup of Golf was last played at Royal Melbourne in 2013 when Jason Day won the individual title and paired with Adam Scott to give Australia the team victory.

It will be the fifth time in the 58-year history the World Cup hits Australian shores.

Both events will be played in the November timeframe in 2016 and 2019 on one of Melbourne’s premier Sandbelt Golf Courses.

The venue and exact dates will be announced at a later time.

“The PGA TOUR and the International Federation of PGA Tours are elated to partner with the State of Victoria and bring The Presidents Cup and World Cup of Golf back to Australia,” PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said.
