Aussie Junior golfers take on world’s best in California
The talented Swaffield brothers from Yeppoon Golf Club, Ben, 15, and Jake, 13 have long been showcasing their unique talent in regional tournaments and are now two of six local juniors competing on an international stage.
The Swaffields, Taryn Maher and Aiden, Ben and Caleb Scott will make their Australian team debut at the Veritas World Junior Olympic Games Golf Championships in California next month.
“It’s very exciting and a great opportunity for these regional kids,” Yeppoon Golf Club junior coordinator Mark Swaffield said.
The team of Yeppoon and Capricorn Coast qualified for the international event after impressing at the Australian Junior Age Division Golf Championships in April.
“A few of the kids got an exemption to join the Australian team,” Swaffield said.
“I think the two Bens and Caleb are in for a really good showing, but Aiden is our region’s most likely chance of a win in the under-9 division.”
Caleb, 15, claimed the overall at the Emerald Junior Golf Open last weekend, while Ben Swaffield took out the Summer Classic earlier this year.
