Fun was par for the course at first Goofy Golf bash
Children swung at tennis balls with hockey sticks and lobbed them down the fairways with tennis rackets and lacrosse sticks during the first Goofy Golf Back-to-School Bash Saturday afternoon.
Accompanied by family and friends, more than 80 children from kindergarten age and up played nine holes for fun at the event, sponsored by the First Tee of Aiken, on the Laurel Course at Houndslake Country Club. With interactive challenges at each hole, the focus was more on fun than competition.
“There was no traditional golf being played today,” said Lexie Milford, First Tee’s director of programming. “There was all sorts of funny stuff to get families together out on the golf course in a non-intimidating way. It’s just a big, fun, family event.”
After a lunch of Marco’s Pizza, the children hit the links.
On the first hole, they played speed golf, hitting the ball as far as they could and then running to it as fast as they could to hit it again.
