Footgolf a new spin on golf

It’s golf for the soccer fan, one soccer ball, nine holes, no golf club.

Footgolf is a combination of  soccer and golf, played on a traditional golf course with basic golf rules.

People kick a football rather than hit a golf ball into a large hole. The player who kicks the ball into the hole with the lowest number of kicks, wins.

Hukanui Golf Club is the only club in the Waikato that offers the sport and it has set up a nine-hole course for families to use.

Hukanui Golf Club president Mark Daniel is excited about the new game.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to get out here and give it a go.”

Daniel said the major problem facing golf clubs around the country is membership, and hoped footgolf would encourage young families to come out to the course.

“It’s one of the biggest issues golf clubs are facing is membership,”
