One year after a debilitating injury, 14-year-old Abbey Daniel will tee off at Augusta National
Abbey Daniel will be standing on the 18th green at Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday realizing a dream that most golfers never will. Daniel, 14 and an eighth grader at Hannan High, will be competing in the Drive, Chip and Putt championship at Augusta after qualifying through three regional rounds last summer.
As an avid golfer, Daniel is ranked as the second-best female junior player in Louisiana and 70th in the nation in her age group. So she understands the significance of competing on golf’s high holy ground where the Masters is staged each year.
But Daniel and her family, who will make the trip this weekend, have a greater appreciation of this moment that goes past making a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage to Bobby Jones’ famous course that opened in 1933.
