xrmanParticipantI hit a 41 yesterday (front 9) Birdie on the 9th. Warm inner glow!
Later when I reviewed the game I thought my rashness trying for GIR on hole one cost me a chance of breaking 80. I pulled the shot into the weeds under the trees, but pin high. I chopped the ball out with an 8 iron to avoid said tree canopy, but it ran through the green onto a grassy bank. I put it on with a 60degree wedge, but missed the putt. Double bogey to start, but the round got better. Had I tried for a fade on shot #2, it might have rolled on or been a short chip on and saved two shots, but I went for distance with a draw. Oh well!

xrmanParticipantYou had a 43 for 9 holes which is commendable I suppose.. What is the par for that 9 holes??
36 for each 9 ; front and back. Front is easier in my opinion.

xrmanParticipantOK, I am being hard on my self assessment. I was thinking that those two drives that went astray meant I had to manufacture an escape shot to get the ball back into play. The outcome was pretty good with a punch shot using the 2H under the tree canopy. In reality, I struggle to get a second shot onto those greens ( distance deficit) and the surrounding area of the greens was so soggy that bounce and roll was zero. It was firmer yesterday after a week of dry conditions, but still the ball stops dead but on the surface, not under it.
Then again, comparing my drives to the Pros’ fairway hits is a long bow. Where would mine go if they went another 120 m further!!!
Funny thing with the shots that went wide, I remember thinking how the Draw shape had cut out the right side of the course. I was happy to see it bend as desired, even if it clipped the trees.
I just need to aim a little right of centre as this confidence grows; ditto for fade shapes alignment.1 user liked this post.
xrmanParticipantToday I played 9 holes at my home and scored 43 strokes; no 3 putts!
Two steps forward
1) reliable draw shapes off the tee hit 7/9 fairways
2) putting close to the pin with putt#1One step back
1) having the confidence to trust the tee shot shape will work and aim left or right of centre and allow the ball to return to centre. Both missed fairways were when I went down the centre and the ball turned into the rough.
xrmanParticipantI played at Heywood this morning with my son in law and his Dad. It was frigid and foggy until hole 7.
Two steps forward
1) The course favours draw shape tee shots. I did O.K. hitting 8/14 fairways
2) I hit my iron shots well. One step back
I lost 6 shots to 3 putting. The greens were fast and difficult to read. That is the end of my handicap drop progression. Score 97.

xrmanParticipantI hit a 78 this morning BUT I was playing off the front tees, except for hole 14 where I wanted to hit over the water into the wind to see how my 2 Hybrid performed. So this is what it feels like to be a long hitter! The only issue is that the bunkers I can’t usually reach are within my distance off the forward tees.
Two steps forward
1) I drove better off the tee today. More distance and good draw shape.
2) Hybrid shots were better direction wise today. One step back
1) Putting : I missed a few close ones by not controlling the face.

xrmanParticipantGood advice thanks. Because I was just playing a social game I tried a hero shot on one of the too right side fades. Cost 2 shots. It was me thinking,” I wonder if I can fade/slice a 6i that much”? I know now that I can’t. I learnt that I need to aim more left with my hybrid fade shot, so the doubles were not wasted.
Being retired means I can go out and try again this morning. Bonus!

xrmanParticipantI played a social game with 3 other players this morning. Fine, but cool and a heavy dew.
Two steps forward
1) I hit a 43 for 9 holes .
2) I found a ball I really like . Snell MTB-X.One step back
1) I over did the side spin on my 2H and one Driver shot= two double bogeys. I push faded a few tee shots still.
xrmanParticipantMy new phone arrived today and I’ve spent the arvo setting it up.
God I had a lot of apps !!!!!
The Aussie COVIDsafe app won’t install: not compatible with Android 10.We have 2 new Android phones and they are both compatible. turn off Wifi and try again. there are a couple of tricky little things that can interfere. I was getting the same thing when using WiFi. as soon as I turned it off I got through.
I reported the problem and, after a few weeks, they acknowledged it as a ‘known problem’.
I tried again a few weeks later, after they’d updated the app, and it installed ok. But it crashed the phone – complete lockup. After a few of those, I uninstalled it and no more crashes. As for wifi, no problem. Mine’s android, not iphone.
take a small bottle of dish washing detergent / water mix and spray the glasses. Fog no more!

xrmanParticipantWell we “luxuriated” at Dartmoor Golf club, a tiny town on the S.A. border. It has a well drained 9 hole course on the banks of the Glenelg River. It was a balmy day ( by Victorian standards) with light winds and patches of sunny conditions. Green fees $15 / day or $25 / week.
Two steps forward
1) The Driver worked! draw shots on command, reasonable distance. Oh, what a feeling!
2) Approach shots peppered the greensOne step back
1) The small fast greens had our measure for most of the game. They were difficult to read for visiting golfers.2 users liked this post.
xrmanParticipantI dunno
Part or golf is sharing your disappointment and confusion about why your ball goes 90 degrees sideways into the trees and finishes behind a huge root while theirs bounces off the tree and into the middle of the fairwayIf you can luxuriate in your misery and cry angry tears to the Golf Gods you’re missing out on half the fun
Don’t tell me, you have Italian heritage, don’t you Weetbix.
xrmanParticipantI learnt this saying from a Canadian guy. “Some will, some won’t, so what! Next!” I call it the SW factor. If I hit poor shot I like to review what I could have done better, then drop it. I can’t change the outcome. It is over. It is a bit like being upset with a poor bounce, or these days lack of any bounce and run. I can’t control that, so why get upset over it.
xrmanParticipantTwo steps forward
1) I have been trying to get a 160 m club for approach shots. I had a Cobra FLy Z 5-7 wood. I had a 42.5 inch shaft and for some reason I could not get it reliable enough to hit 160m. I had the shaft reduced by as inch and at 20 degree it hit 160 m practically every time.
2) I added 3gm of lead tape on the heel of my Driver. Now I am getting a reliable draw shape and less side spin on my fades. Confidence inspiring. One step back
1) The improved equipment still relies on me to swing it properly.1 user liked this post.
xrmanParticipant8) Holding on to bad shots? Emotionally, does he mean?
10) starting poorly; That would be my poor tee shots, or does he mean starting the game poorly. I do that too often, taking a few holes to warm up. Possibly trying to whack them too hard and forgetting to watch the ball is my problem ( in golf)
For me 1,5,7 are things that I do often.
