xrmanParticipantThat happened last year. We dealt with it locally and had it contained in a few days.
Will they ever find the grave??
Well stranger things have happened. It was one of our local drug dealers who slipped up to Melbourne for a supply run.
It would be a watery grave, either via cray pot as bait, or out near the seal colony for the white pointers. Then again, inland we have huge forests ,both softwood plantations and blue gums. Next to that, the National Parks from the S.A. border to 100 km east are a mass of over grown tracks and noxious weeds now. Think jungle! The N.P. sounded like a good idea 10 years ago just before the State election. To the inner city latte set, at least. We were not consulted! The shallow grave might be detected after the next major bush fire though.1 user liked this post.
xrmanParticipantAnd I wonder how it would happen if there are cases in your hood, from someone travelling there perhaps?
That happened last year. We dealt with it locally and had it contained in a few days. That was per -Delta though.
I wonder what the authorities would do if the only ” cases” we had were in a rural town. My guess is a ring fence and life would go on in Melbourne as usual.

xrmanParticipantI think CB80 has been travelling outside the Melbourne metro area for a while. Why would you go home at this time?
In rural areas the compliance with ” rules” is a bit less stringent. Should we start to see cases arise closer than 380 km to us , we would start taking the lock down seriously.
xrmanParticipantThe local farmers usually say there is money on mud, but now they are saying they could afford to make a little less.
xrmanParticipantWell it is official. Our rainfall for July was the highest for the last 100 years!
Little wonder it is wet on the course.
xrmanParticipantFunny that is what I said too!
It is worse for we rural folk living 400 km from the city and still forced to lock down for the third time this year. Why?
xrmanParticipantThe course was pretty wet and muddy today. I used my cart , but in retrospect it was too wet for carts. I hope SWMBO will let you have a couple of hours for exercise. Are you bringing the van? I am assuming that the Mt.Gambier family visit is not on.
My practice round today had a purpose. I borrowed a 3 wood shaft and put it in my 5 Wood. I don’t really know what loft it was really playing at, but it seemed that the extra 1/2 inch made a bit of difference. It looked to give me a higher ball flight and a consistent 170-175m carry on my good strikes. I used it for most of the tee shots and second shots, trying to gather data.
I hit 8/14 fairways and I can’t recall any tee shots that were not in play. Arccos told me that my driving distance sucks, as is usual.
I hit 6 GIR, 3 up and downs and 35 putts. After the improvement using the longer shaft, I have decided to source a longer shaft to fit to the 5 Wood.

xrmanParticipantAfter a bit of a frustrating session yesterday , I decided to try again this morning. The sun is shining and a moderate northerly is blowing, but the course is still very wet. So are my socks too!
The objective of the session was to see if I could get a better result with faded tee shot with the shorter Nike Driver. set up for fade( 2W)
Hole 1 I hit the Tee shot with the Cleveland Driver 45.5 inch shaft set up for a Draw shot ( 1W) and rather than try to cut the corner( high risk) I tried to hit to the outside of the dogleg where there is no trouble. With a head wind I didn’t think I would reach the right rough, but I did. Learning from last round I hit a 4H shot and kept the ball in play, chipped on and two putts for a Bogey.
Hole 2 I tried the 2w with a slightly upward swing and got a straight-ish 170m shot. It went to the outside of the left dog leg and I had a clear shot at the green. That was a good outcome. I tried a faded 7W shot approach and it was short of the green just. Bogey again.
Hole 3 I used the 1W into the wind and the ball went 176m and finished in the left rough. I zigzagged down the fairway hitting a 4W and a 3H 3/4 approach shot to end just above the pin in the semi rough. My LW chip went too far. The lag putt was good back up the hill. Bogey agian.
Hole 4 and I saw a much better 2W shot off the tee that went parallel to the left side trees and fades slightly . It went 174m and gave me an 8 i shot into the green and one putt for a birdie result.
Hole 5 the 2W faded a bit more, but still gave me an easy chip on for a par.
Hole 6 I hit into the wind and manged to clip a tree on the left side. I hit a nice faded 7W onto the green and two putted for par.
Hole 7 I hit the 1W 187 m with a left side wind and finished right side rough. I faded a 3H back onto the fairway, the hit a 6H to the back of the green. This time it went a bit too far, so I had a chip and putt back for a par.
Hole 8 I hit my 8i off the tee a bit right and long. The I managed a PW chip that hit the verge and stopped dead in the soft conditions. Darn should have chosen the 9 iron for a bit more roll? Double bogey 5.
Hole 9 and I hit the 2W a staggering 197m with the wind behind me. Wow.
Hole 10. I hit the 2W to the centre of the fairway despite a wind pushing it left.Overall I am confident that the 2W makes sense at this time of year to replace the 4W.

xrmanParticipantI have wet fee!. Adriano and I went for a practice 9 holes on the front 9 at Portland this morning. It stopped raining and the sun came out and the wind dropped while we played. There is water on the ground everywhere.
My first drive after 3 weeks off went long and straight, straight through the dog leg and into the right rough. Hmmn! The lie was crap and my attempted 3H fade looped up into the air after I hit a tussock of grass and ended up in the left rough. Hmmn again! I hit a 9 iron at the green and it was perfect length, but about 15 m left of centre. My SW chip on went well, but short ( should have used GW) and 2 putts for a double bogey. The green was slow and soft.
I was excited to try the 44.5″ shafted Nike driver ( A flex shaft) that I had set up with 12 gm weight on the toe side of centre. I aimed left and expected it to fade out to the centre of the fairway. It actually had a slight draw and ended up in the left light rough. Strange! The other day the ball went right every time. I checked the base of the Driver and sure enough the adhesive on the lead tape from Golf Clearance Outlet had failed. Still it was a 183 m tee shot to the corner of the dog leg. I then hit the TS2 7 wood ( set at 21 degrees) 172m past the pin. O.K. that went further than I expected. I chipped onto the down hill sloped green and thought , good spot selection, only to see it roll up to the pin and slowly roll all the way down the green. I should have use the LW. Then I hit my putt uphill way too softly, then missed the second putt. Another Double.
I hit the tee shot with the Cleveland Driver quite well on hole #3, but it rolled about 10 cm past its’ landing position. I got onto the 7W really well ( 168m) setting up a 8 i shot into the green. The ball was on a down slope and slightly above my feet. Darn I hit it fa!. My chip on with SW was good, as I was trying to fly it to the pin. It went past and left me with a long down hill putt. I missed, but not by much. Score =6 again.
I tried with the Nike Driver on hole #4 aiming left and it went left, with perhaps a hint of fade. I had to hook out with my 3H and then almost got my LW chip on the green. 2 putts and a 5 ( not 6) score; two double, two bogeys. Hole 5 was a repeat. An attempted fade went straight left and shorter than I had achieved in practice the other day. Perhaps the 12 gm of weight missing from the head was affecting the ball speed? This time I chipped with my GW and got it close to the hole. Par!
I teed off with the 5th hole with the Nike and this time the straight shot went 178m to the corner , leaving me a 7i shot into the green. Another par score. The putter was working at last, getting within 1 metre with the lag putt.
Hole 7 tee shot with the Cleveland went 186 m but the start direction was down the centre of the fairway and over drew it into the left rough. It wasn’t a great lie, so I hit my F7 25 hybrid and kept the ball in play and within scoring distance. Well It would have been if I had not been too conservative in club selection. I hit a 8i for an uphill shot, where a 7 i or 6 Hybrid might have been a wiser choice. Another bogey.
Hole 8 and a shot 130 m to the back of the green with a incline back stop was needed. I hit my 7i 131m and it stopped dead on the incline. I had to roll into downhill over the green lip with my SL 3H club and thought to myself, ” good pace” , but then the slope took over. The ball rolled away from the hole, leaving a 12 footer back. I missed. Bogey.
On hole 9 I was determine to get the ball to fade and put a lot of cut spin on it the Nike Driver shot. Well it worked but lost 10 m-15 m. distance.
Score 45 OTS. I didn’t hit many fairways, but most tee shots were in play. 1 /9 GIR and 1 up and down. 18 putts.
Two Steps
1) I have worked out that in winter conditions ( no run) the 7W set at 21 degrees makes my 5W redundant. On a windy day I would probably use the 5W to keep the ball out of the wind.
2) Having a fairway finder Driver is probably going to help me score better. I will have to try again once I get lead tape that will stick and stay in place. I want the shot to fade say 10 m and do about >180-185m . I have another Nike Vapor Speed Driver with 45.5″ Regular Flex shaft that might do the job.One Step back
1) 3 weeks off golf and my touch for chip shots has deteriorated.2 users liked this post.
xrmanParticipantMy back is somewhat better today, so I took the Nike Vapor Speed out to test on the practice area.
I have set it up to fade to take the left side of the course out of contention. It is set at 11.5 degrees, open face. I teed up on a yellow castle tee, trying to hit up a little with a strong grip/ swing from the inside and wham! Aiming left from the tee box I got a 200 m shot that faded back to the centre of the fairway. A howling tail wind had something to do with the resulting distance.
I plan to the the two Driver strategy again. The Cleveland for draw shots/ maximum distance and the Nike for fade /fairway finder for holes 2,4,6,9,10,12 & 16? Now that we have zero roll I have noticed that my 5W and 7W are giving similar total distance, so I will drop one of them from my bag, depending on the wind strength.

xrmanParticipantnew Home?
xrmanParticipantThis border closure stuff is BS. We had a Veterans Association game scheduled for Dartmoor on Monday. It has been cancelled because if players from outside the 40 km border bubble enter the zone, the residents of Dartmoor will have to isolate for 14 days if going over to Mt Gambier to shop ( closest shopping area).
Forgive me but
1) What happens if they visit Heywood the closest town on the Vic side , then go home. Is it not the same as someone from Heywood gong to Dartmoor? What about the daily transport drivers visiting Mt.Gambier from Adelaide?
2) Both Sates have active Covid cases (both 400-500 km away from Dartmoor)Surely it is time these ridiculous restrictions are lifted!

xrmanParticipantBack 9 at Portland is closed, so they are playing the front 9 twice. No carts for social golf until further notice. Water puddles abound.
xrmanParticipantI certainly would Geoff. Our course is very wet now, but with a few windy days that should improve.
The S.A. premier will wait for 14 days after we achieve zero cases ( if we achieve zero ever again)
My back is giving me grief at present. I hope it will improve soon.
xrmanParticipantLock down finished ( for now) in Victoria and the golf course is open. Sydney is learning all about how it feels now, I guess.
I spent today visiting the Chiropractor and generally feeling sorry for myself. I pulled some back muscles while replacing fascia boards on my daughter’s house, plus I managed to bruise my nuts when moving from one roof level to another. Ouch. I didn’t quite clear the raised flashing edge. Oh wel,l the Olympics were on the Television and drugs, dry needling, back adjustments, low level laser seem to have worked. I finished watching Z Nation on Net Flix.(it gets a B+ from me)
My yard is flooded and still more heavy rain is coming. I might get out to the course for a look tomorrow, but I think it will be too wet to play.
