Hack2489ParticipantAh, sorry, but this thing, COVID-19, is a lot worse than the common ‘flu.
Most people think the ‘flu is their winter head cold. Runny nose, sore throat, bit of a cough. That’s not the ‘flu that kills people.
This Coronavirus, COVID-19 has major differences due to how it spreads and the impact on health systems. It’s a numbers game.
At present about 10% of people need acute health care (so, yes, that leaves 90% with mild symptoms). But, when over half our population ends up infected at the peak (current forecast), that’s say 10 million people, at 10%, so 1 million needing acute care, our health system can’t cope.
With usual illness, accidents, emergency,
etc the hospitals are likely to face tough decisions on who to treat. People will die from other illness, accident, etc because of the capacity blocked by Coronavirus patients. If your kid gets sick and the hospital is full of old people with covid-19, where do you go? And, would you want to be in the same hospital?
At around the 3.5% mortality rate, with a large infected population, say we only get to 20%, so 5 million, we’re looking at 175,000 deaths. That impacts health system, and death system because it will all come at same time. We don’t have the capacity.
The biggest impact is when the population is forced into lock down. Whether by large numbers in self isolation or by imposed area wide lockdown. Things stop. Deliveries are slowed to a crawl. Food supplies dwindle due to slow deliveries. Economic activity grinds to a halt. Businesses will go bust because they do not have the cash or access to funds to trade through. You can’t stop the grind of economic trade slowing right down due to population wide lock downs. That is what the governments want to stop, but once covid-19 takes hold, it’s a quick slope to lock down.
You don’t need alarmist BS, but equally a flippant nonchalant attitude won’t help either. We all need to be prepared for a lock down and economic, financial, impacts.
And we can all help to stop the spread of this thing. Washing hands regularly while out in the community is one step. Stopping usually body to body contact like shaking hands and even sharing things (pens, phones, computers, cars, etc) can help slow the spread.
The ideal is a long slow peak. So longer impact but without the peak crisis. This could be a 12month thing if a long slow peak, or a 6 month thing if a large peak. Either way, we’re in for a lot of disruption.

Hack2489ParticipantOk crew, let’s get this going!
I have few people I know keen to start a Friday afternoon social round, business networking, fun type golf afternoon every Friday.
Rough plan / idea / concept is we pick a venue and turn up and play. If you can do 18, get there earlier, if only 9, cool, get there anyway… Meet up, form a group and get playing. Relaxed, casual social rounds which will hopefully grow in numbers so we have to start booking… Until then, get the message out, invite your mates, turn up, have fun and wind down with some new faces.
Send me a PM with your mobile and I’ll make contact with you.
PS: if we get enough interest we can look at making it a comp round. Let’s get the numbers and get it happening!

Hack2489ParticipantOk need some member feedback on the new L4G Jacket, trophy and logo.
Weve got a couple of potentials jackets to use from Paul J wardrobe (Chris offered up). Any feedback here or DM me.
Also we need to develop a perpetual trophy for Nationals and update logo if anyone likes something different?.
Just FYI for the IT crew … I can’t see the attachments of this post on my phone (Android Pie with latest updates), but can see them on PC / Laptop (Windows 10 with latest Chrome and Firefox browsers both worked, didn’t try Edge browser)

Surely the green … it’s like the Masters jacket but faded like most memories
Has a air of Kermit about it too.
None of the others have any personality.

Hack2489ParticipantAnd the winner of today’s comp…Sum Karnt…playing off 45….yes, that’s not a typo…welcome to the world of new handicap system….with….wait for it….
58
Yep. No typo. Fifty farken eight.
How do you like them apples?
@ least with WHS he’ll get a quick handicap adjustment.
Have to wonder how 45 cap shoots 20 shots better than cap. I’m guessing new player, new cap. If so, his cap will tumble dramatically under WHS.

March 8, 2020 at 5:40 am in reply to: 6 things pro golfers do when they practice that amateurs never do #10065
Hack2489ParticipantHaving invested a lot of time in practice and lessons, a lot more than amateurs, pro’s have usually been ‘taught’ a routine for practice. Every golf coach I’ve been to has made a point of taking to me about “how” I practice.
I’m curious as to what others have been taught. What and why, do you use various practice routines, drills, skills tests etc.
???

Hack2489ParticipantSo you are prepared to pay for a driver fitting, (probably $150+) to get matched to a head and shaft that work in unison for you and walk away without it. But then expect to pick up that same head and shaft, set to your specifics from someone else who just happens to have the same club/shaft/specs as you require for half the price or less.
I believe Darryl Kerrigan probably summed it up best.
Don’t you read the GolfWRX forums?
That’s how it is done in the US.
Trouble is, here in Oz, we don’t have the market size. Or the players who buy new gear and swap out every few months.
So, it can be done, but just takes longer and more effort. Personally I don’t have the patience. Kudos to those who do.

Hack2489ParticipantHi Everyone,
I am in the market for a new driver, I have never been fitted before, as I have always just bought 2nd hand clubs.
What I am thinking right now is using either – Golf Central, Viccy Park or Cool Clubs to do a driver fitting. My goal is to be able to test as many brands in the same session to see which suits the best. Any pros and cons to my picks?
I probably won’t end up buying a club from any of these places, because I think it is pretty crazy to spend that much on a club when you can probably pick up something 2nd hand that someone else is offloading. I just want this session to give me the data needed to make an informed selection.
Do yourself a favour and head down the coast to “The golf school” at the Palm Meadows driving range… See Peter Harrington.
Will cost WAY less and you’ll get honest advice. They have all major brands, fitting carts and the shaft optimiser tool.
They use trackman while you hit out onto a range so you get data and actual ball flight.
Having watched a full fitting at cool clubs, I’d strongly recommend not going to cool clubs.
Shot me a PM and we can have a chat if you want more detail.
PS: no pressure to buy with the golf school, but if you did, I found them to be 10% less than RRP including the cost of fitting.
You can also try any and every club without a fitting at the golf school too. Think last Friday every month they have all brand reps there to do fittings too.
Golf school has a very unique set up. As I said, highly recommend and we’ll worth a trip down to the coast
