GoldyKeymasterAnd I thought I’d transpose this from the “How did you play” thread…
And played the VW shamble at YM today, with Pete. and the salt and pepper shakers (CB80 and Dancer…identically dressed…again!)
We had a ball. And Dave was friggen awesome…kept hitting fairways, made a few terrific putts, had an own birdie on the par 3 22nd! We finished 5 under off the stick, net 59.2. Not even close, but still had a terrific day. And for the record…my drives were used 6 (yes…SIX) times. None on par 3s. Now…this bit is for those that know the course…we started on 11, used my drives on the par 5 13th, the par 4 18th (you read that correctly), the par 5 23rd, the par 4 26th (cop THAT!), the par 5 27th and the par 5 10th.
The highlight for me…other than taking my drives on 18 and 26…was on the 21st hole. Long par 4, we took Geoff’s drive. still around 190 in. Dave in the fairway bunker, I smashed the 3w but pulled it left and in the crap, Pete pulls his 3w or 5w…some wood…left of the green, the one spot you really don’t want to miss the green. Now chipping is not my strength…and Pete does it pretty well, but we couldn’t use him as he was out, having hit the previous shot. So I’m debating…bump and run an 8i on, or fly it on with the wedge. I say to the other 2…I’m crap at this, so I’ll go first. Pick the wedge, fly it nicely on, rolls towards the hole…and drops.

GoldyKeymaster40 points at Yering today. 7 pars, 3 doubles. 86 off the stick, my best round at Yering since I joined there.
Seems appropriate……now that you are leaving there. 😂
Hmmmm…..yeah….I’ve got to say that whilst it’s still most likely, the group I play with there (who hopefully you guys will meet at the Frog in 2 weeks…Marcus has played a couple of the OOMs in the past – Pete hasn’t) are so good that it will make the decision much harder than it appeared.
So it’s still a wait and see. But you do make a good point!
Are you returning to Le Frog?
What went wrong with YM, thought you were enjoying it there??
Where do you plan on moving to if not Le Frog???So many questions. Think I better go to the deck and order a brown refreshment. (No, not coffee)
It’ll be the Frog or YM, Dave. It’s a little on the financial (Frog can work out a lot cheaper) but I’m enjoying YM. At this stage the Frog is likely, but not 100% yet.
Have another brown refreshment for me.

GoldyKeymasterSo I decided in honour of Stink setting up the thread at the old place, that I’d keep the thread name.
Anyway…yesterday. Grab a cold drink, possibly a substantial meal, and settle in. Or stop reading right now. Dealer’s choice.
Valley course, playing off 18, with my usual group of Marcus (off 13) and Pete (off 5). You lot will meet them at the Frog in 2 weeks…some of you will know Marcus already…he played with RobNewy at Gardiners for a while. Ripping blokes the pair of them.
Valley course consists of holes 10-27. It went something like this…
10 – Par 5 – nothing exceptional to speak of, over the creek near the green for 3, pitched to the edge, 2 putted from off the green, bogey, 6/2
11 – Par 4 – drive ok, 3w to just short of the green, bumped a 7i to about 2 feet, par, (4/3, 5 points after 2)
12 – Par 3 – poor tee shot into greenside bunker, came out a bit hot, over the green, bumped on, dropped a 12 footer for bogey, (4/2, 7 points). Got away with one.
13 – Par 5 – drive left, blocked the next shot into the hazard right, drop, hybrid over the hazard, wedge in, missed the bogey putt by a fingernail, double (7/1, 8 points)
14 – Par 4 – terrific drive, 7i in, lands the green but annoyingly rolls off the back down the hill into the trees, 2 more to get on, 2 putt double…FFS…(6/1, 9 points)
15 – Par 4 – short hole, driver to about 90m, 9i babied in to about 10 feet, graze the hole for birdie, par (4/3, 12 points)
16 – Par 3 – 5w to 15 feet, 2 putt par (3/3, 15 points)
17 – Par 4 – pulled drive left, 4h to about 30 feet short of the green, bump 7i to 12 feet, 2 putt bogey (5/2, 17 points)
18 – Par 4 – drive left fairway, 3w to about 95m out, 9i to fringe pin high, 2 putts from there, bogey (5/2, 19 points)So a bit lucky on 13 – although the bogey putt after the penalty was unlucky not to drop – and probably got fingered on 14 with a 7i in for the approach shot going off the back. 19 points…that’ll do me. Good solid pars on 11, 15 and 16.
19 – Par 4 – decent drive, 4h pulled left of the green, chipped to fringe, dropped par putt from the fringe (4/3, 22 points)
20 – Par 4 – terrific drive, 7i to pin high, putt for birdie a little low on a bit left to right breaker, par (4/3, 25 points)
21 – Par 4 – really good drive, spanked the 3w to the fringe of the green at the front, long putt to the back of the green to about 6 feet, par (4/3, 28 points)
22 – Par 3 – tee shot short in the bunker, out to about 8 feet, lipped out for par, bogey (4/2, 30 points)
23 – Par 5 – terrific tee shot, 4h to about 110 out, 8i to 20 feet, 2 putt par (5/3, 33 points)At his point, 1 over on the back 9 after 5 holes, and 5 points up on handicap, I think the sphincter started to tighten a little….but I digress…
24 – Par 4 – terrific tee shot, 7i came up a few metres short of the green, chipped on, 2 putt bogey (5/2, 35 points)
25 – Par 3 – 3w a bit chunky and short of the greenside bunker, sw over to the green, 2 putt bogey (4/2, 37 points)
26 – Par 4 – #1 rated hole on the Valley layout, it’s a layup par 4 for me – 3w good off the tee, layup 8i, 7i in, pulled left of the green, poor chip on, 2 putt double (6/1, 38 points)
27 – Par 5 – really good drive, poor 3w, followed by a reasonable one, gw onto fringe, 2 putt from there for bogey (6/2, 40 points)My best score at Yering since I’ve been there (86 off the stick, including 3 doubles, and 7 pars). I had a flag dropping out, but still had a played to 11.8, my best flag, and dropped 0.5 down to 14.8. I’ve got another flag dropping out this week, and I’ll still be off 18 on all layouts at YM.
But my goodness…I enjoyed yesterday.
