You will all be pleased to realise that the new handicapping system will come into play 2 days before this event, which will give me extra handicap shots for my daily so that our scores can be directly compared without having to make an allowance. There is every possibility that I might be able to begin to lift my average off the bottom of the pile.

Yeah, nah. The whole point is that the boys whose scratch rating is already close to par aren’t likely to get extra shots. In fact, if you play a course where the scratch rating is below par, then you will lose shots. However, on most courses, my scratch rating is 2-3 shots over par so I should gain those 2-3 shots on my daily.
You are screwed.
