Robotic golf pro: Driving range adds new ‘instructor’

A Memphis driving range has just added a new golf instructor that towers over 9 feet tall, weighs 822 pounds and uses six arms to improve students’ golf swings.
There’s not another RoboGolfPro machine available to improvement-minded golfers this side of Chicago, and there’s only 30 worldwide. Vantage Point Golf Center in Cordova now has one.
Students face the machine and hold the club that is attached to the robot. An instructor stands nearby at a computer, and programs and controls the ideal robotic movement — the arc of the swing — for that particular student.
But instructors still have a big part to play. They not only tailor the robotic swing to the student’s needs, they still must be hands-on with pupils to lead proper movement of the torso and legs.
